Making friends | Bon Jovi live June 11 1995, 1996, 1989; June 12 1984 | Rock Star Yoga LIBERATION

Bon Jovi live Spielberg/ Zeltweg Austria June 11 1995

One of the best things about being a Bon Jovi fan, is the joy of seeing others diving deep into the Bon Jovi material, and coming up with remastered bootlegs, upgraded photos, little known facts, and with links to interesting articles and videos.
Some create legacies and libraries of their own, some post at regular intervals and others contribute day-by-day, on an ongoing basis.

It are these connections, the cross-over pollination they create and the conversations they spark with other fans, that are the perks of being a fan of a band that has active communities all over the world and all over internet.

And in my case, as a creator, they are the reason I can write about Bon Jovi and tie the topics I have a background in (yoga, personal development, and business) to something a little more entertaining!
To something that rocks, not a little, but a lot more.

Although I am an experienced writer;
If it had not been for all the things I had learned from other fans, I would have been severely limited with what I could come up with.
And I definitely would not have committed to making this (almost!) daily blog about yoga and Bon Jovi live concerts-
as I promised this blog would be from this day forward.

And the truth of all this, became very obvious when just today, I started digging for the pre-1997 concerts Bon Jovi had given on this day, and I thought I had done my work!
When a Twitter account by Jane, effortlessly shared;
-an audio recording of their June 11 1996 concert in Luxemburg
-posters and photos from June 11 1995 concert Zeltweg/Spielberg Austria and June 11 1996 Luxembourg
And
Drumroll
-A legendary concert at June 11 1989 at the Giant Stadium in East Rutherford, that I had happened to miss!

The only thing about June 11/12 where Jane and I had come to the same conclusion was that their only retro June 12 gig, in 1984 Worcester Center USA, as opening act to the Scorpions, did not have YouTube uploads*.

*I later found out there is one other, also not recorded, concert:
June 12, Sunplaza Hiroshima, Japan ]

If you want to dive in, and relive the 80s and 90s decades with the band, today is a great day!

Bon Jovi – Luxembourg 11.06.1996 (incomplete audio)
Bon Jovi | Legendary First Concert at Giants Stadium | 30th Anniversary | New Jersey 1989

And just like in my previous post, I can also share a 2020 video, I made about the 1995 concert;
My (Suzanne Beenackers) video review of
#15 Zeltweg/ Spielberg, Austria June 11 | 1995 Bon Jovi Concert Series (Stories)

In 2020, the many concert recordings on YouTube had inspired me to do a 1995 series and make video reviews.
But listening and analyzing them was way too time intensive to fit my calendar, and I ultimately dropped out on their three night streak at Wembley.

Since I have only come up with this concept of tying the Bon Jovi concerts on this day, to this daily yoga blog, and just casually discuss what comes to the table yoga wise;
I considered this Sunday June 12, “my first day”, on this blog.
The first day I got up and knew what I wanted to do, and started with gathering information about June 11 and 12 concerts.

And what today taught me, is that it is the connection with others, that is the reason why I love writing about Bon Jovi so much.
And making video stories about them.
That it ties the personal, the experience we all have when we listen to their music, to something bigger.

And that that is what I want for yoga, our yoga, to happen too.

I want to inspire you to start your own practice, in the same way that you can listen to music. Want to give you the little nudge, if you need any, that you really can just go onto YouTube, and for example start with Yoga with Adriene, or check the playlists under this post;
And then just do yoga, the same way you can listen to an album or a concert video.

Or you can put on music and just do your own yoga, whatever feels good to you.

And that we’re all 100% capable of doing our own thing. Just like we don’t need anybody to hold our hand or explain a Bon Jovi record, in order to listen to it, and enjoy it.

But that the whole thing just gets so much better with friends.
With community.

And we, the Bon Jovi fans; We already got that.

The yoga is just an extra.

Welcome on the new daily blog | Bon Jovi Basil Switzerland June 10 1995 | Rock Star Yoga LIBERATION

This day in Bon Jovi history:
On June 10 1995 Bon Jovi performed in Basil Switzerland.

In 1995 the mighty These Tour started

Today it is 37 years ago that Bon Jovi performed in Basil Switzerland. A fact that more or less randomly fell out of the Google hat, when I checked if Bon Jovi had ever given a concert on this day.
And one that almost seduced me into making some kind of commitment to always open these new daily posts with a concert reference!

“Almost” because I have a painful history with committing myself to listening and analyzing 2.5 hour Bon Jovi recordings before making content and unsurprisingly; That didn’t work.
The series was called The 1995 Bon Jovi Concert Series, and Basil was in the first few months of the tour, when I was still making the videos.

I m not going to update the description box, nor check what I m actually saying here, but – with my eyes closed and fingers in my ears !-  here is the link! lol
My (Suzanne Beenackers) video review of #14 Basel, Switzerland June 10

In 2020, the many concert recordings on YouTube had inspired me to do a series and make video reviews.
But listening and analyzing them was way too time intensive to fit my calendar.

So to recklessly yell:
“OMG I m going to open every Daily Bon Jovi Yoga post with an 80s or 90s Bon Jovi concert!” is probably setting myself up for disaster…..
It is probably the one thing, I really should not be doing.

..

..

But wait.
What IF; I just commit to finding a daily concert link for you to listen to?
And for me to listen to, during my deskwork. But I m not going to analyze or research it, or otherwise slow us down.
This way, we get to revisit all those wonderful concerts from that amazing era, and it will lift us up, and not delay me overpreparing.

So consider that done.

Besides; Anything that is unwise, and something I should not be doing, happens to be irresistibly appealing to me.
So of course we’re going to do that.

Subscribe to this blog to get them daily in your Inbox.

And now, why I started this post today?!

10 June 2022!

The day I will hold as the OFFICIAL start, of all things Daily Bon Jovi Yoga, Rock Star Yoga. Of a new community, that like a new business, has opened its doors today, and that will be yours to come by whenever you want to.

Daily Bon Jovi Yoga/ Rock star Yoga Community

.
Today is the day we start our free online community where we;
🦹🏻 start doing yoga *
🔝🚨get back on the wagon when we drop off
🌶️ take yoga to new levels
And at all levels: Totally rock it.
 🤩

Because that is the big, bigger, biggest advantage, now that I have stopped what we are used to calling “teaching” yoga (but that was actually more instructing or guiding, and rarely teaching) and have realigned my yoga with my original, 24 year old (!) intention, with my initial passion:
We ALL get to rock yoga, and thrive, because we all get to practice in our own way and with the tools/ music and in the setting that inspires you.
You design the thing!

My yoga can now be the way what I ve always wanted it to be, and over the past few years, my work has morphed into what I REALLY want to teach!

Practice yoga.
Make it rock.
The end.

Or not the exact End, because my aim is to create a community, with this blog, with my main YouTube channel, and my dormant Dutch channel.

To build a community that acknowledges, supports and nurtures what we do, and who we are.
As rogue, rebel, independent as f. and by any standard badass yogis who DO NOT follow any rules, not even their own.

And in all honesty?
I, we, rebel yogis, should not have been the exception to the rule here.

Because over the last few decades a mesmerizing number of activities and services did develop as communities of individual practitioners.
Just not yoga.

Instead, yoga took a course where it ended up having all cards on supporting people who are looking for a group activity;
With zero services, communities or education for when you want to practice independently.

And that, is weird.

In 2001 I actually joined a four year teacher training because I had been doing yoga for 90 minutes a day, with just a weekly class to support me, that was in no way tailored to my needs.
There was nothing in between;
Weekly class or teacher training. That was it.
Maybe I could have found a teacher training that was 2 years instead of four, but getting a teacher training was the only way to learn the system of yoga.
The only way to feel you were getting the support you needed.

There are many things to unpack here.
Such as: Why did I even think I needed that support?
Why didn’t I just stick to my own mat, and was so susceptible to the idea I needed guidance?
Or that it would make my practice better?
Which it certainly, did not.

My yoga practice has never been better than those first years, where all I had was one weekly yoga class and my library card.

If I think where I would have been if I would have developed THAT instead of burdening myself with all the history, the rules, the systems, but also the whole being a yoga teacher thing … Talking about traps to avoid in that industry, this blogpost would become 4000 words, and without any prospect of tying the final sentence to the Bon Jovi 1995 Basil concert!
So let’s not.

The point is not what my personal losses are, nor what my personal gains were;
The point is there are ample groups, classes, communities and teacher trainings for yoga, but they are all aimed at the practice being done in a group setting.
Yet there is hardly any support to develop your own practice.
To do it your own way.

There is no community to celebrate your wins, find inspiration, or EVEN,  simply someone telling you it is not just okay to develop your own practice;
It is a responsibility.

That you did not come here, that God did not put you on this earth, to dance to the beat of somebody else’s drum.

I m at 1:11 in the Bon Jovi Basil recording now.
The drums from Tico Torres kick in, together with David Bryan’s keyboard . It’s the intro to the song that was literally written to open the record, New Jersey (1988) as well as to open stadium and arena shows all around the world.

New Jersey should have been a double record;
There was a double amount of songs available, and with the help of fans they selected the demos that were recorded for the final album.
All songs, bar one; Lay Your Hands On Me didn’t have a demo.
It was composed in the studio, for one single purpose that was not debated with fans, nor was it subject to trial and error, and should we or should we nots.

Lay Your Hands On Me, was written to rock and open with a guaranteed bang!

That’s your own responsibility.

We have everything we need | Rock Star Yoga LIBERATION

video, 90 minutes: Bon Jovi | New Jersey | The Ultimate Live Compilation | 1988-1991  by hAnD90

stills from my old videos. Playlists on my channel

Yesterday, I attended the Sunday Night surprise premiere of a new hAnD90 upload; A YouTube channel that restores video and audio recordings of Bon Jovi concerts.

It is a craft only few possess and I imagine you can compare remastering Bon Jovi concerts as somewhere between the art of lovingly restoring gems that were lost in time – like the piece by piece restorations of very old objects, as seen on YouTube. A process that includes sand streaming, grinding, acid baths and other innovative techniques to remove rust, and tear and then carefully rebuild the object.
And, on the other hand, remastering video and audio of concert recordings reminds me of the big business of upgrading old movies. As we’ve seen classics being rereleased by major studios, in full color and with enhanced audio.

Although few will understand exactly what hAnD90 does to achieve these results – although he does always include his process in the description box – I think on the level of one individual recording, of one individual process?
We have an understanding of what it must look like.

But what few realize is that, in my opinion, most of us will soon face a far bigger problem, and that the bottleneck is ultimately not a tech one.
It’s the same reason why I was very quick to quit my studies to become a photographer in the 90s, because this thing was driving me crazy.
And it is something that everyone with a camera on their phone knows only too well, which is;
“How do we structure this?”

What the hell do we do with the thousands and thousands of photos from our phones?
Or: How would you archive hundreds and hundreds of Bon Jovi VHS, cassette tapes,  video files and MP3 recordings?

Sooner or later every creator has to find a way to structure, archive, but also still access, their work, if they are ever to create a legacy. And also, if they have any intention of keeping their sanity.

Unless you’re okay with your surroundings being in a constant state of turmoil, the quality of the structure you have for storing your creative work, is at least as important as the quality of the work you deliver.
Unless you want to run the risk of your object being retrieved from the bottom of a creek in Idaho, and hope for the YouTuber of that time to sand stream and reconstruct it back to life for you;
You need to be the guardian of your own creative work, the curator of your own depot, and it is your job to manage your ground materials and your creations, for as long as they fall under your care.

But when in 2016, I started filming my own yoga videos, I didn’t know all that of course. I thought that learning how to upload and edit, was the problem. Not how I was going to keep the description box updated with a yoga business that was subject to change.
I thought I was like Bon Jovi, touring, one gig after another. One video after the next. And you get better at it, right?

But what I failed to see was that creating videos had put me in a whole different league, the creator one.
And that the only thing that I should worry getting better at, was understanding how to keep my content updated, both with my own work and offerings, as well as with YouTube features.
Regularly, new boxes suddenly needed ticking, new features needed to be bypassed, and there were the occasional hiccups, as I vividly remember YouTube unedited my videos early 2020.

Just like most yoga teachers in the Netherlands (we are all independent, and rarely paid by a studio or gym) spend more time doing marketing, emailing students, doing their own yoga practice, cleaning their studio, handling their own and their business’ finances, than actually teaching yoga;
Most YouTube creators spend more time researching their video, cleaning the set, cleaning it up afterwards, uploading their video to their computer, editing it, uploading it to YouTube, entering all the specifications, writing a description box, and posting it onto social media;
Than actually filming the video.

And after a while, another time consuming task is added as well;
To either let their old content fall by the wayside, or revisit it, refresh it, and create a different context so that it keeps its value.

But like I said, I was ignorant of those things, at the time.
It was just me, and some archaic software program that I do not even know the name of anymore, but it compressed my files in a way so that I could upload them within 30 minutes, instead of the uploads taking hours and hours.
And it was my pride and joy that I had even figured out how to do that, because it was not easy.

And to be honest, when last week, for some reasons shared and some not shared, I decided to quit my yoga career and never make yoga videos again;
A part of me, a large part, was still in that 2D reality, and was measuring my worth as a creator by how actively I was creating new content.

No wonder that last week’s decision to give it all up, was a blow to my self-esteem as well as to my identity as a yoga teacher.
From a logical perspective, now that I was no longer teaching yoga, I had stopped being a yoga teacher.

Which, as it turns out, could absolutely not have been further from the truth.

The moment I decided to stop making yoga videos, just like the moment I decided to never teach real life classes anymore (with the exception of yoga to friends), was not the moment I stopped being a yoga teacher;
It was in fact, the moment I became it.

Because my dream, what inspired me personally, is to be a strong practitioner, of yoga. To be a self-reliant student, who creates her own practice.
Whereas the profession of yoga teacher, seldom if ever, entails encouraging and inspiring students to create their own practice.
And I call it Rock Star Yoga or #dailybonjoviyoga, because I do it to the length and music of one album of Bon Jovi.

But yoga classes rarely offer a structured curriculum, where the student learns what they need to rock their yoga.
Nor is yoga taught in a way where the growth within the practice, and the development of the practice, is the leading motive.

Instead, yoga is typically taught in a way that enables you to get through your life. And the ambition, the change, the growth, if mentioned, is usually more in the field of general personal development.
And aimed at all the other aspects, of your life.
Not at the yoga itself.

But that has never been yoga, for me.

All I want yoga to be for me, is something you can indulge in, fully. On your own. Trusting yourself, trusting your practice, trusting God, Bon Jovi or whatever it is you want to put your faith in.
I want it to be a transformative experience for you, that lures you in, and that will be with you, for the rest of your life.

I want you to fall deeply and madly in love yoga, with all your heart.

The channel contains a few dozen professionally shot videos from 2015

And that, is what I will be talking about, if you need me.
On two channels:
My Dutch yoga channel*, as well as on my English channel*.

I already changed the headers of those channels weeks ago.
They say things like “yoga” and “Studio voor Rock Star Yoga” (Dutch), and I m going to leave it at that. Because although I no longer make instructional videos, I DO teach yoga!

And for the first time in my life, I ll be teaching you the only thing that I think matters:

LIBERATION
How to create true rock star freedom, in your body, business and your life.
And become who the world needs you to be

As soon as I have liberated myself from a very earthly cold 😉
The following series will resume or start:
Life lessons in Bon Jovi songs
– Rock Star Yoga (new style!)
On my English YouTube
– Dutch Rock Star Yoga
Op mijn Nederlandse YouTube
– and LIBERATION business videos
On the Rock Your Business
 channel

I ve also added playlists from the best yoga teachers of the world: Shiva Rea, Meghan Currie, Tara Stiles.
I ve created playlists for beginners, there is a 30 Day challenge, and all those videos I created all those years? And better than I could possibly redo them for you now?
Soon enough, you will be able to revisit all of them.

My old work, is being unlocked and added to my main channel, video by video, playlist by playlist

In the months leading up to the Ultimate New Jersey Live Compilation, hAnD90 remastered all the concerts he wanted to use.
And after he had done that, he composed the 90 minute long compilation, that is now on his channel. It opens with Jon’s voice, talking about the meaning of this New Jersey tour, which came right after their Slippery When Wet tour.

The video ends with an acoustic song, The Fighter, and a quote about how you have to do it yourself, even when nobody is rooting for you.
They had each other, and that was all they needed.

We also, have each other.

And with all the yoga books ever written, and over 15 years of yoga on YouTube from the best teachers of the world at our fingertips;
With me being able to teach you yoga through this blog, through my Dutch YouTube*, and my English one*?

And with almost four decades of Bon Jovi music to provide the perfect soundtrack to our practice?

We really do, have all we need.

Ending my yoga career after 19 years

Madonna playing a yoga teacher in The Next Best Thing.
Which in my opinion, was THE BEST thing!
Without Madonna I would not do yoga, nor have taught yoga

Dear reader,

First of all a little consolidation:
This blog is staying.

Tomorrow I will reboot my Yoga Challenge to do Bon Jovi yoga 365 days,  and I will write about it here.
This will make this blog the only expression of yoga, I will have in the future.

About two months ago I merged all my art forms together, into a Rock Star project, that included English and Dutch yoga channels.
I was absolutely thrilled with the idea that the Rock Star project would bring all my favorite areas, Yoga, Business and Writing together.

But the result has been absolutely disastrous.
My productivity has flatlined, in all areas.
And all I think of all day is that I “have to” make yoga videos, and beat myself up for not being professional.

I have never been less productive in my life.
Wanting to combine these areas is clearly too much, and it has paralyzed me.

Combined with the fact that I have found out that I will not teach yoga as a professional, in real life ever again (and only one day pick up teaching yoga to friends), and the fact that my yoga videos on YouTube feel out of alignment with the power house I am and the inspiration I know I am here to bring!, the only correct choice is to stop teaching yoga once and for all.

Talking business and Bon Jovi on video, is for me. Teaching yoga, is not.
And not just now; over the last two weeks alone, there has not been a day, I did not want to delete all my yoga videos.
By quitting making new ones, I hope I can stand having them online, and that the desire to delete all of them will fade away.

But all in all, I have decided to bite the bullet, and I admit I have made a mistake.

That I have not just deluded myself, and given myself hope, that I would be able to teach yoga suitable for Bon Jovi fans, and build two online YouTube yoga studios, that we would all love and that would be fun and lighthearted!
But I have also given you hope I would be able to do that.

I admit to you and myself;
I can’t.

And instead of dragging this failure into yet another day, this has to end right now. It’s enough.
I will spend the rest of this week cleaning up all my blogs and channels, until there is clarity that I am a writer, a business teacher, a freedom teacher, a YouTuber about Bon Jovi; But that I will only write about yoga.

That is still a lot.
But to me, taking yoga videos out of there, and acknowledging that I am no longer a yoga teacher, makes it not just bearable;
It makes it RIGHT.

It makes the project Rock Star exactly, the way it was always meant to be. Yoga does not belong in it. And teaching yoga does not get to go with me, from this point on.

Will I miss being in spandex in front of my camera?
Absolutely not.

Will I miss being a yoga teacher?
Oh hell yes.

I ve updated the Rock Star program here below.
And in the upcoming days I will adjust all my websites and YouTube channels.
Which is a good way to spend the rest of the week, because I have a pretty bad cold, and have not been able to work yesterday and today.

But I wanted to let you, on this Daily Bon Jovi Yoga site, know first.
Which like I said, will continue.
I started a 365 day yoga challenge one month ago, which was also one of the many things that suffered.
I want to start fresh and show you and myself, that I can do this!
The first month of this yoga challenge did help me understand I was blocking, and in a very bad shape mentally. It helped me to understand I needed to burn the boat and never teach yoga again.

Right now it hurts so much, but it’s nothing more than shame and losing face.
Which is ultimately absolutely irrelevant. Like I said, bite the bullet, apologize, and move on.
I fucked up, and that’s the end of it.

But it does feel weird.
Because in 2019 I did have a vision of what I was going to do, what I was going to create, and I called it Rock Star Yoga.
And to then not do it?
To then say, sorry I f-ed up?
It can mean two things in my opinion.

Either the vision was false and I just wanted it to be true, because being a yoga teacher gave me a sense of identity.
I have always been a communicator, artist, writer and mindset and business/entrepreneur enthusiast. All day, every day, I can do this work that I love without even needing sleep.
Yet the only yoga teacher I ever wanted to be was Madonna in The Next Best Thing!

Rock Star Yoga was me giving a name to what Madonna in The Next Best Thing was.
Rock Star Yoga was the closest thing I have ever felt, to capturing that  dream. The closest thing, to the inspiration she offered in that movie.
So that makes it even stranger that I didn’t pursue!

The second option is that the vision was true, and Rock Star Yoga was for me; And I am missing my calling and life’s purpose.
But there is a catch to this one….
Because what I DO automatically, which is writing, and business, and studying Bon Jovi, and even making Bon Jovi videos (although, like the 365 yoga challenge, these videos have also mas-sive-ly suffered from me beating myself up for not making yoga videos).
So judging from the past years, the purpose, the calling, of wanting to teach Rock Star Yoga, has proven to take a toll on writing and my Bon Jovi work, two things which I consider far more important.
More, my calling.
If I have to choose, and judging from how little work I get done if I make myself teach yoga on video, I do have to choose; I d rather drop yoga and do all the other things.

It was just that being a yoga teacher did give me an identity, and of course, money.
That made Rock Star Yoga so alluring…. It was the promise of a real profession (yoga teacher) WITH the coolness of all things Bon Jovi.

But upcoming July, it would have been almost three years since I started developing Rock Star Yoga, and I have been unsuccessful at making it work.
I will spare you how Covid and giving up my yoga space, have all contributed to it, because I think ultimately it doesn’t matter.

And with that, my yoga career has finally, come to an end.

day 4-day 14 Top Shelf (an extended stay in The Wilderness) | 365 days

In 1990 Jon Bon Jovi released a successful solo album Blaze of Glory, a soundtrack to a movie. The MTV interview with Julie Brown visiting his rented villa in Hollywood hills, was an absolute joy to watch! Video bottom post.

When I wrote two blogposts at the start of this year long yoga challenge, and naming the second one Day 2 even when it was written on Day 3 (but yoga session 2, I was already one day behind), I definitely did not know my time in the wilderness was far from over.

The passionate blogpost was titled:
day 2 The Wilderness | 365 days
about 1990, an intense post-touring year for Jon Bon Jovi, when he crossed the US on a motorcycle but also got on the Young Guns  II caravan which then led him to Hollywood Hills to produce his first solo record.

It was a time without band, without having a familiar routine to follow, perhaps even a time without full ownership of being the world famous rock star he had ambitiously strived to be and had then become it.
It was a time without all of those things, and it led to a year of both proverbial and literal wilderness (of New Mexico, and crossing the United States on bikes).

The blogpost suggested that since Jon Bon Jovi’s time in the wilderness had turned out to be a well of inspiration and growth;
I hoped my time in my wilderness would take the same route by committing to do
one year of yoga!
Although it didn’t literally say it, I definitely hoped 365 yoga sessions would magically fix something that had been haunting me for as long as the Slippery When Wet tour and New Jersey Syndicate tour together.

The good news is: It DID magically fix it!
But definitely not in the way I expected it would.
And my stay in the wilderness was definitely extended by a day or 10.

So as I write you, fully renewed and feeling better than I have in years, and more committed to both my yoga schedule as well as my work as a writer, yoga teacher and business coach, I m telling you;
The magic never works the way you think it does.
But it does work.

It reminds me of the key mechanism to solution-focused information products, some of which I bought and some I only followed a long webinar that bullet-pointed the content that you would get in the full package.
They would always guarantee that the formula or 5 step program, would help you fix your problem.

On an unrelated note: These packages usually came with a money-back guarantee but in the fine-print it then said that you had to send in your homework for the first two modules or something, before you would get your money back.
We’re talking 5 years back or more, maybe it changed.
But I always thought it was a breach of privacy, since they are not entitled to your personal story for what in most countries would be a consumer right of return.
But my study of these info-products designed to “magically fix” f.e. your love life, did teach me an important lesson to what works, why it works, and what the key mechanism is.
Which is not that the program they give you brings you something: But it is that you have to let something go, or you have to acquire a certain skill or mindset in order to be able to adopt or implement the program.

For example, if I told you the solution to all your problems is in a jar on the absolute top shelf of a stockroom, you will immediately start figuring out how to reach it.
Maybe a truck, maybe a ladder, but you’d focus on how to get there.
And this changes something in you; You learn how to drive a forklift, or you befriend a forklift driver. You start searching the premises looking for equipment that could help raise you up.
You overcome your fear of heights or your fear of talking to people.

By the time you reach the jar, you’re no longer the same person. And very likely the person who takes that jar of the shelf no longer has the same problem your old self had.

After you ve implement the 5 steps for a better love life, you ve overcome so many fears and taken on several challenges that would have held you back otherwise.
The solution didn’t really come because you now have those 5 things in place, but because of who you had to become to get them there.

The same way my yoga challenge is working, and has worked.
And the past 10 plus days reminded me of that ladder/ forklift wisdom, that I had forgotten.

I realized that although my instincts had been right to set out on the yoga challenge; That the change was never going to come from the daily yoga, or the 365 yoga sessions.
But from overcoming the challenges to get that daily yoga in place.

I got to the magic jar, on the top shelf of the stockroom.

day 2 The Wilderness | 365 days

In 1990 Jon Bon Jovi released a successful album Blaze of Glory. The MTV interview with Julie Brown visiting his rented villa in Hollywood hills, was an absolute joy to watch! Video below post.

These 365 days of yoga are not inspired by YouTube and Instagram challenges (unsurprisingly, since I don’t even have Instagram), nor by the ageless wisdom of doing yoga everyday.
Instead it is exclusively rooted in an early 21st century challenge of writer Julie Powell, blogging and cooking her way through Julia Child’s French cookbook in one year.

There were over 500 recipes, and she gave herself a year to cook them all.

In her footsteps, I ve committed myself to a year of yoga and blogging too. And although there will be days when I choose a short yoga practice rather than skipping a day, yesterday (day 2!) I could feel the reality of what it means to have this yoga challenge rooted in her cooking challenge, and not in the tradition of having daily habits.
I felt in my bones, this really is an entirely different thing.

That squeezing in a one-song yoga practice and skipping blogging, which would have been the deal yesterday since it was already past midnight before I had time, was in absolutely no way contributing to what MY practice, and THIS challenge was about.

That nor I, nor this challenge,  were about ticking off days in linear sense, where a day is 24 hours to do your yoga;
And instead it’s, well for one, more about the journey than about accomplishing anything. But as far as it is about an accomplishment, then it is about the total amount of yoga sessions.
Just like it is about the total amount of recipes.

And I like blogging, I like writing about it as well.

Although I do not expect to write a blogpost about every of the 365 yoga sessions;
There will be many.

So today’s session was with the album I originally intended to do yoga with yesterday; Blaze of Glory.
Jon Bon Jovi’s 1990 solo album for the movie Young Guns II.
Now this all sounds pretty dry, but it is actually the most exciting, storytelling-dense period of Jon Bon Jovi’s career, as the band was coming down from over half a decade of almost back to back touring.
Things had started to fall apart.

When in February 1990, the lights went out of that final concert in Guadalajara, Mexico, they could have gone out for good.

And it was in that state, where Jon didn’t even know if there still was a band, that he took on this project of writing the soundtrack for the cowboy movie Young Guns two.
Cowboys had been a theme that spoke to Jon from the earliest days of Bon Jovi. And for those who go looking for it, you can find traces of their presence on nearly every Bon Jovi album.
Musically, and lyrically.

But writing the soundtrack for Young Guns II would be the only time Jon allowed himself free rein, and take on the renegade identity in full.

The result was a record that traded the pounded and paved road of the world famous band Bon Jovi, for the dusty terrain of New Mexico.
It resulted in unexpected collaborations with an array of other artists, in an award winning record, and in Jon Bon Jovi finding himself.

He embraced the wilderness, the work of writing and recording; He even enjoyed the press release in what you could call a pr-collaboration with MTV comedian Julie Brown.
By letting go of the idea of being in a band called Bon Jovi, and fully going with what he was guided to;
He reinvented his music, his lyrics and himself.

Challenges are never about ticking things off.

They’re about following Spirit and following the road you are shown.

day 1 Daily Bon Jovi Yoga | 365 days kickoff

Me, April 3, 2014. And a vision I can only dream of! Perhaps after 365 days of Daily Bon Jovi Yoga?!

I have trouble keeping my eyes open, that’s how tired I am. It was a very long day, and after what will probably be the most fundamental but also the most difficult weeks of 2022.
Although we’ve all learned not to count on the worst being over by worldly standards, but yeah.
On a personal level, I would not wish these weeks upon my proverbial worst enemy.

And the context of today explains more than just why I m tired.
It explains why I need a project, a bigger vision, to rescue me!
Or at least prevent me from hitting cliffs and getting lost. Like a beacon.

I m finally committing to Daily Bon Jovi Yoga, the way I originally planned to do, when I founded this site. And since we’ll be seeing each other blogging every day for the upcoming year, I allow myself to keep it short.
There are after all 364 days left to explain myself.

This streak of 365 days in a row is inspired by the 2010 movie Julie & Julia (trailer) where a blogger, Julie, starts a challenge to cook from Julia Child’s classic French cookbook, which has over 500 recipes in it.
Like me, she needed something to give her a sense of direction. The cooking project helps her to see beyond her everyday worries.

My Daily Bon Jovi Yoga Project is:
– to practice yoga with one vintage Bon Jovi album (-1995)
– a song or multiple songs from the deep-cut list from that same era (
 Bon Jovi 1984/85-1995 Deep cuts and cover songs (live))
– or to do yoga with (part of) a concert, or live performance from that era.

The yoga is 100% freestyle.
I do not plan, track or even remember any of it.

The only goal is to see if one year from now, I feel better than I have in the past weeks, the past years.
And maybe even to find out if the girl in reclined hero’s pose, on her pink yoga mat – a photo from 2014 I recently recovered- to see if in 365 days she’s here again.

With her eyes closed, but not because she’s so worn out.
But because she’s laughing.

Writing first, yoga second, and life will just have to figure itself out.

photos: Early 2014, in my yoga space. I no longer own a business nor a studio space, I stopped December 2020.

I m writing this after a satisfying breakfast, still in my bathing robe and already halfway through a can of black coffee.
To be behind a computer AM, is a familiar sighting. But I have not written for this blog in a while. And for the past four years I rarely let myself write first thing in the morning.
Because I know little will get done after it.

Things I am allowed to do in the morning are:
Yoga, cycling, anything on my schedule, appointments and so on, and getting a new business going (something you sell) and if that feels too overwhelming, then create videos;
Make Bon Jovi/ yoga/ business videos for my three YouTube channels.

Show yourself, share yourself, share your work, so you can later add a business model to them.
And since visual communication has won the 21st century, and because being visible, was going to be at the heart of a new career, then we all know text don’t count.

We all know that in the real world, writing is merely a tool, something people use to sell something real. Writing pour le writing, is something only a fool would spend their time on.
Let alone someone pushing 50 who is without career. Someone like that is in a hurry! And picking up a pen is about as constructive as online gambling. Just that with writing you lose time and your day, not money.
But since they all say that time is the only real true currency, whether losing time is actually better than a gambling addiction remains debatable.

But I think you get the idea why I m not going to waste time with something as futile as writing.
I still believe that if it had not been for the pandemic, my career in yoga would have transformed into something new. That it would have been a reinvention, not a finalizing. But that’s all water under the bridge now.

So to be honest, I don’t care that writing gives my life meaning, that it’s the only thing I m good at, and that I want to do it each morning and the only thing people (usually writers) envy me for and that I know how to do daily, and full of passion.
Because if it’s not making me money?
If it’s not writing I use to sell something?
Then at age 50, it goes on the pile with gambling addiction and other bad life habits.

Or it goes on the pile of habits I m allowed to do if I get up at 5 AM, and I can indulge myself in before my real job starts.
Which is the timeslot writing will end up soon, now that I have burned all business models to the ground.
For this post, I will limit myself to discussing the yoga business model, but there has been more abandoning and walking away from. It all had to go.

What has happened in the past four years is that because I knew it is better to make money as an entrepreneur – because you have multiple clients, multiple services and multiple income streams – than it is to make money being employed, because you only have one income stream – and because I love marketing and sales, I have looked for ways to start a new business and tried out a few too.
But the most exciting one has been something I called Rock Star Yoga.

Rock Star Yoga was going to be a blend of teaching yoga in real life, whether locally or nationally and even internationally;
Of making YouTube videos, and of sharing my own practice through this blog, Daily Bon Jovi Yoga.

Where writing or business coaching, my two other skills for which I am qualified and that I can monetize, need work in order to be able to sell it; And would cost me hours for which I would get paid immediately or afterwards;
Rock Star Yoga didn’t have any of that.

The vision I had of being together doing Rock Star Yoga, WAS the Rock Star Yoga.
Just like a concert IS, the highest form of performance for an artist.
And an album, is their most tangible form of music.

The reason that within the immaterial arts, almost nobody is an artist or a rock star, is because you need to stay away from the things that make you money in the short run such as:
Cover band/ tribute band, teaching your skill, making courses.

If yoga is my art (and it is) then it is an immaterial art form, and I must stay away from selling it as yoga.

Since July 2019, one year after I took my first steps on the path of slowing down my regular yoga business to give way to something new, I have known that something I called Rock Star Yoga, was going to be my second career in yoga.
Unsurprisingly, it has been a terribly rocky path!
So July 2019 to April 2022, that’s two years and 9 months, before the uncomfortable truth sank in that if Rock Star Yoga was art then I had to ruthlessly pull the plug on selling my yoga at cover band, tribute band level, or selling my yoga as a yoga teacher, ever again.
I still hope to one day live in a big house, where I teach yoga to friends in my home studio. Just like artists have a home studio, where they play and record.

But even the idea of giving yoga shows, events where I teach;
Even that exciting idea that dissipated this week.
It’s gone.
Not just the small hope that I would teach locally, but the big vision too.
It’s all gone.

Thursday morning I woke up with the idea of starting to teach. I knew a location that would be ideal for Rock Star Yoga!
Excited that after 4 years of introspection and downsizing my yoga, I finally had a big vision AND a local, more sustainable vision for building a day to day yoga business, I contacted them.
But something in the communication felt so completely off, and I could just see how it was all related to the reality of building a yoga business.
This no longer worked for me.
Having a brick and mortar business, is a calling in and of itself.

What I had not realized is that once you re used to sharing your work online, there is just no going back into the real world.
Rock Star Yoga, cannot exist in a pinpointed, packaged up, tangible fashion, within four walls and with a company registered at the chamber of commerce.
Not as service, not as art, not as artist, and then subsequently also, not as a business.

Rock Star Yoga cannot exist unless someone has Rock Star Yoga as their calling like I have writing as my calling.
Business, teaching, a brick and mortar location, Rock Star Yoga?
They are all things that need your full attention.

Having four blogs here, three other blogs elsewhere, 16 years of writing under my belt and with my desk calling me every morning, and me ignoring that calling with the mightiest of might for the past four years?
Dealing with anything else than writing?
Is attention I don’t have.

I am only a writer, even if being only a writer is not a real thing.
Then I will make my peace with not being a real thing.

The upcoming years I will share everything I know about yoga on my YouTube channels, and develop Rock Star Yoga, or see “what it wants to be”, as it evolves, day by day. I will write here on this blog, about doing yoga and about Rock Star Yoga.
And I will also share what I know about business, on my Rock Your Business YouTube.

But what I will probably not share, is how blessed you are if you do not have a an irrepressible urge to be creative every morning.
Maybe you even have a writer’s block!
Cherish it, it means you can make something out of your life!

I have numbed out my urge to write with Netflix, with food (I m at my heaviest ever), alcohol, –
I can’t think of more. Those are the only three that have been strong enough to numb it out.

So I m just going to accept that all I want to do is write, and that everything else is just going to have to take care of itself.
Because after four years of trying to reinvent my yoga career or any career,  my yoga business or any business;
And gaining ten kilos and consuming countless Netflix series instead?

I m done.
I failed.

Writing first. Yoga second, maybe.

The 38 minutes and homemade yoga bolster, that could have saved me

I am “Forrest Gumping” myself into getting some sort of system to
– blog daily
– do yoga daily
– get my daylight and exercise outdoor;
And then – a girl can dream! – it would be nice to actually get some work done as well.

Last week’s celebrational claim that I was finally feeling better and was no longer losing the first half of my day to sickness, proved to be as inspiring as it was prematurely.

So with the first hours of my day still being gnawed at, by Life;
And me STILL not being consistent with the only thing that prevents a slow start, which is to radically cap all social time, worktime, and screen time to 7 PM, and only do yoga and housekeeping in the evenings
(a sacrifice I am apparently not willing to make in full) (or at all);
Under those circumstances, what I consider to be “planning”, feels more like Forrest Gumping.

Or maybe as something that would have gotten better results, if I actually had stopped making it so complicated, trying to control things, and had just put one foot in front of the other.
After all, I don’t know if you are familiar with the movie, but Forrest Gump’s approach turned out to be very successful, and it brought him far in life.
And he did not make it as complicated as I do.

So I don’t think I do him justice when I say I m “Forrest Gumping” myself through these first days where I struggle to make the Daily Bon Jovi blog, as well as the daily yoga itself to become non-negotiable elements of my day for the rest of my life.
Because Forrest would have given it less thought, and gotten it right.
Instead of giving it a lot of thought, and still getting it wrong.

“Entirely wrong?” I hear you say 😉
No, not entirely.
I am doing daily yoga, it’s just that the blogging part requires more thought. The times I wrote it after 7 PM, I paid for it dearly by handing over the first half of the next day, to pay for my sins.

So I will spent the first available desk hour of my day to writing this blog.
And yoga after 7 PM, unless I have an evening activity, and then I ll do it earlier.

One important reason I am attached to doing yoga at night time, is because although as a writer I am free to plan my workhours as I like, most people work daytime hours.

If I would do my #dailybonjoviyoga during regular office hours, I think it would be less relatable, than if I set it up to have to fit a life that is not about yoga.

I want my daily yoga be squeezed in at the edges of a workday, so that we are all on the same page.

And since I do not have access to my mornings, and also because I love squeezing in as many desk hours before noon as I can (it used to work up to 6 hours before noon!), I will never choose the mornings to do yoga.
Although the morning is the most common time to yoga, traditionally. For both people who have jobs as well as for yoga teachers.

But I have chosen the night, the evening, to be the time I practice yoga, #dailybonjoviyoga.

I share all these ins and outs about when to practice, and what my reasons were behind it, because I want to illustrate the struggle of picking a time, the  struggle all of us who are not Forrest Gump, and who do not automatically choose right, might face;
As well as that I want to invite you to experiment with it. Try things out to get it right.

I don’t endorse micromanaging your day, but understanding the building blocks of your day, and moving them around until they work, pays off.
All your activities have an ideal time to be done;
And just saying “first things first” is a simplification.

You wouldn’t organize a rock concert at 11 AM.
The same way committing to yoga may involve some juggling, finding the right timeslot when it rocks.

So within this process of juggling yoga, I found myself practicing the first Bon Jovi album, from 1984, yesterday at 10PM.
It is only 38 minutes long, and I had chosen this album for its shortness.
And because I was feeling dizzy and unstable, I chose restorative yoga, which is the final page from our free download

pillow Mojlighet by IKEA

Restorative yoga used to be a bit of a mixed bag to teach, in my video classes as well as a large portion of studio classes .
This is because they require quite some equipment, most notably a yoga bolster, which is a long sturdy pillow.

Where other yoga equipment, such as yoga blocks and yoga belts, can easily be replaced with a stack of books or a regular belt, the yoga bolster requires more work.
And most yoga studios I have worked in, with the exception of my own yoga studio, did not have bolsters for their students.
What I did in those studios, ideally, is to use two round, high, meditation cushions, instead of one bolster. But if I had a full class, there were not enough of them.

So then I could not teach restorative yoga.

With the few full-length video classes I gave in 2020 I got more creative, and found a benefit of teaching online.
Because people at home can make a bolster by rolling up one or two blankets or sleeping bags, in a roll that is about a meter long.
IKEA also seems to be stocking bolster-esque pillows, currently. Mojlighet. But I have not seen them or tested these ones they are selling right now.

Sales of bolster-like pillows by IKEA have been erratic, and when they are for sale it sure pays off to get them while stocks last.
Pre-pandemic we have had three to five years without these pillows at IKEA.

But like I said, you can also roll up one or multiple blankets into a sturdy, one-meter long roll.

The yoga I did was the restorative yoga at the final page (schedule 8) page from our free download
But you can also check YouTube for “restorative yoga” or “yoga with bolster”, if you prefer to be guided.

restorative yoga, schedule 8 from our free download

There are 7 poses in the schedule, and 9 songs on the album Bon Jovi-Bon Jovi.

Practiced pose 1-5, in one-song-each fashion, with song 1-5.

Poses 6 (“backbend”) and 7 (“variation butterfly legs”) are backbends and I do not recommend holding them for a whole song. I practiced these poses during song 6 and 7, but by alternating them.
So let’s say pose 6 for a while, then 7, then back to 6, then 7. And so on.

I used song 8 and 9 for relaxation.

During practice my emotions went from feeling I was cutting corners because I wasn’t practicing standing poses, or other what I would consider “real” yoga poses, and had chosen for the shortest Bon Jovi album and the easiest set of poses;
To one of understanding this was really all it took.

That “only” doing restorative poses, is really all the yoga anyone ever really needs to make a change in health, relaxation, stress-release.
And that 38 minutes is more than enough.

All those years where I struggled to find a practice, and even to an extend the most recent years where I start-stopped doing Bon Jovi yoga, or Rock Star Yoga.
The years where instead of keeping it simple, I thought about it, got frustrated, didn’t feel it, and so on.

Yesterday, doing this 38 minute restorative yoga practice with a ten year old IKEA bolster, doing the easiest most relaxing poses I knew, I realized;
This is really all it takes.

But Forrest Gump would have been able to tell you that 1600 words ago.

I m currently restoring my older work. New yoga videos to support our Daily Bon Jovi Yoga / Rock Star Yoga are set for  late June.

New Jersey: 57 minutes. And the best Bon Jovi album ever.

Just like I fell off the yoga wagon – for reasons that are by now brightly clear to me, but I will save that story for another day –
the same way I fell of the Bon Jovi wagon.

Not just in the late 80s, because their music was too entangled with the person who broke my heart;
But as recent as last year.

I didn’t walk away from it, there was nothing dramatic about it. Just that the way I was creating art from it, my blogging series for my original Rock Star Writer blog, my video series where I was making reviews of the These Days tour, as well as the whole concept of Rock Star Yoga;
None of them were going anywhere, fluently. They all seemed stuck, and somehow “off”.
Because if they had been on track, they would have flowed. And they didn’t.

I can only really enjoy art, relationships, music, movies, if they inspire me to create something. I process my experiences, by creating my own art inspired by them. And when those systems, or series, didn’t take off, the input, the music from Bon Jovi could also not be processed.
For example I have not watched Bon Jovi documentaries either, nor read Bon Jovi books. Because if I don’t have easy-access Bon Jovi expressions, art forms, then I cannot process it.
And therefor I cannot take it in.

The reason I was suddenly so aware of this, today, when listening to New Jersey while doing my yoga, was because I remembered that when I was really into the music of Bon Jovi, listening to it on a daily basis, making review videos, attending live stream premieres and so on;
During that time, I could distinguish how remarkable and unique Jon’s voice was on New Jersey.
And today, Friday 11 February 2022, I knew, I remembered, that fact; But I could no longer hear it.

If I had not gotten my head around this album a year or more back, and remembered this fact, then I would not have been able to come to that observation today.
I am simply not that deep into it, anymore. Or “yet”; Since I know it will come back, now that through this blog, and through my yoga, I have a sturdy creative expression.
My involvement with Bon Jovi will take off again.

I will share in a moment how this relates to doing yoga – but first the piece of knowledge about that voice. About why New Jersey is so special.

First off, technically, it’s the album that had the most songs written for it, and there was talk that New Jersey was going to be a double album.
For my YouTube series Life lessons in Bon Jovi songs, the channel where in the future I will also be sharing Rock Star Yoga, the songs from this series will be including songs that were never released on official albums.
They are commonly referred to as “deep cuts”.

Around the New Jersey album, the video series that I m doing, will have the highest number of deep cuts out of all the albums. The number of songs they recorded, intended for New Jersey, is enormous.

But the reason I remembered being so struck by Jon’s voice on New Jersey-and lucky us, that THIS was the album they made more than double the songs for!-  was because his voice has a rough edge to it.

Probably as a “result” of extensive touring, Jon’s voice changed and on New Jersey it has not just range, but also a mesmerizing rawness and honesty to it. It sounds  effortless, off the cuff. Most noticeably in the garage band -recordings “Ride Cowboy Ride” and “Love for Sale”.

But like I said:
I remembered this. I could no longer hear it.

As was the case with doing yoga: The past years were spent mostly yoga free, and just like I had lost touch with the nuances of Bon Jovi, in a similar way I have lost touch with doing yoga.
I remember much of it, and I was able to “do” yoga using that knowledge and finding that wonderful edge in poses, where roughness and range melt.

But if I had not remembered it, I would have been unable to experience it, or get to that point, today.

With Bon Jovi as well as with yoga, I m stepping in not so much as a “beginner” but I am profiting from a foundation that was built years ago.
And both with Bon Jovi as well as with the physical poses, there is a tremendous and in a way definitely painful awareness;
I have been cleaner, and identifiable “better”.
I used to live and breathe this, and now I don’t.

But at the same time there is an understanding, that this time, any time when you are learning something, whether it’s an entirely new thing, or whether it’s something you fell out of, like I did;
That this time is so very, very precious.

If you’re starting yoga, or thinking about starting yoga; If you’re considering picking up listening to Bon Jovi;
Cherish it.
Enjoy this phase of not-knowing, of awkwardness, of newness. There is a deep and profound beauty in it, that you may never experience again.

I don’t think Bon Jovi knew they were creating their best album, according to some at least New Jersey is their best. And to the others it’s These Days, I reckon!
Those are the biggies.
But I don’t think Bon Jovi knew, with either of those albums, that they were creating their best work.

But I do think they were in the moment, surrendered to the work of writing and recording; And spent little time on should have could have, or only if.

The album New Jersey is proof that if you just focus on what’s in front of you, right now, that that is not just “all” you can do;
But that is what creates the most beautiful, rich, layered, and abundant outcomes.

This is the track list:

1.Lay Your Hands on Me
2.Bad Medicine
3.Born to Be My Baby
4.Living in Sin
5.Blood on Blood
6.Homebound Train
7.Wild Is the Wind
8.Ride Cowboy Ride
9.Stick to Your Guns
10.I’ll Be There for You
11.99 in the Shade
12.Love for Sale

Hitting the yoga mat tomorrow, probably with Keep The Faith.
