One of Tara’s first yoga dvds, 2010. Dvds currently unavailable in Europe, but she has her own online studio, and as one of the few teachers, she kept all her old videos available on YouTube.

Having been online since 2006, originally with yoga videos for the model agency she was under contract with, Tara Stiles one of the first YouTube yoga teachers.
She is an author, teacher, and the founder of Strala Yoga.

The title of the YouTube upload has the adjective “legendary”;
Being the second night in Cologne, Jon invites the crowd to do even better than the one they had yesterday;
And apparently they succeeded!

The band was on fire, the concert was really long, and there was a remarkable moment:
from the concert page:
“During his improvisations in the middle of Someday I’ll Be A Saturday Night, Jon sang a few lines from Destination Anywhere. Indeed his solo song that wasn’t to be released until a year later. This gives an indication of when the track actually might’ve been written.”

There is a press conference from the band Bon Jovi, on the day of their first concert in Cologne, on 28 June.
Again, credit to Jane for finding that, because even after she had shared the picture, I could not find the video material from the band giving interviews.

However, what I did find was an interview Jon gave on the 30th of June, probably in Frankfurt before the concert there, that I would qualify as:
The morning after.

Where the band had still looked fresh on the pictures of 28th of June;
After rocking Cologne for two nights, and in anticipation to their 3rd night playing in a row, now in Frankfurt, Jon was left to face the press alone.

The interview focuses on his movie work, probably the German release of Moonlight and Valentino, and the female interviewer doesn’t downplay her own or any other German female’s interest in him, which definitely pays off in getting Jon’s absolute best.
He takes off his sunglasses for her, they discuss chess hair, romance, there’s plenty of fun and laughter.
Even though he obviously must have been exhausted.

Which made me realize what the difference is between having the “it” factor, and being a world star, and not being that;
It’s how you are the morning after.

That success is as much about, if not more, how well you do in far from ideal circumstances;
Than about how well you do on stage, or on set.
That it’s when you sit with an interviewer 48 hours after you were still fresh and backed by your band, but by now two nights of peak performances later and gearing up for the next- on your own when the rest of the band is having at least the daytime to recover;
And instead you are giving personal interviews.

It’s about how well you do then.

It’s just like sex, where the key to having a spectacularly good sex life as a single;
It is not as much, or not ONLY, about how well you’re able to set it up, and how well you are able to perform;
But how you are doing the day after.

Can you let go of what was the night before, and meet the next person, taking your sunglasses off?

Because a true rock star can.

Made in 1999, this was one of the first yoga cds, and the best one ever made i.m.o. The original box with booklet and poster; It’s an education.

I learned about Shiva Rea’s work through my vinyasa power yoga teacher training;
Our trainer was from California too, and she introduced Shiva Rea to these early 20th century classes of students, who would become Holland’s first vinyasa power yoga teachers.
I was one of them, and having been introduced to Shiva’s work, at such an early stage, is one of the many things I am grateful for.

I credit Shiva’s 1999 double cd Yoga Sanctuary for the quality of my teachings.
The way she used her voice, her pacing, choice of words;
Even her Californian accent became mine when I taught.
And to this day, one of my bigger goals is to have her album Yoga Sanctuary play a major role in my personal practice.
There were years I did the 2 cds from Yoga Sanctuary on December 31;
As a way to close the old year and start the new.

Shiva’s work has a natural grace as well as strength. And it breathes and feels like the Californian shore.

If you choose a guided practice, then Thursday is Shiva’s Day, in Rock Star Yoga/ #DailyBonJoviYoga.
And if you practice on your own, you can choose Bon Jovi’s Keep the Faith album (1992) as your soundtrack, or a show from the Keep the Faith tour, for example:

Thursday is one of the three days marked “Showtime!”
Meaning that stronger and longer practices, are invited.

Just like a tour schedule, the Rock Star Yoga/ #dailybonjoviyoga schedule, has days when you go for a peak performance, and days when you noodle around.
The Showtime! days are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and I have paired them up with teachers that challenge you and have longer practices available on YouTube.
Neither the cd Yoga Sanctuary, nor Yoga Shakti dvd which was Shiva’s dvd I practiced with extensively, are available on YouTube.
But there is still plenty from other dvd’s that made it to YouTube;

“Shiva Rea is known for her moving, free-flowing form of yoga. In 1999, her first recorded teachings were released, a double cd “Yoga Sanctuary” which had a recommendation from Alanis Morissette. She has created many yoga dvds combining yoga and dance, and she teaches around the world.

The final video, is one to provide historical context to why Shiva Rea became such an early leader in the yoga world;
It was because her roots are in the original Yoga Works community, in Santa Monica.

Yoga Works Santa Monica was founded in 1988, by Maty Ezraty and Chuck Miller.
When they sold it in 2004, this location alone was offering more than 120 classes per week to more than 700 students per day.
The Wanderlust interview with Maty Ezraty must have been filmed shortly after, so around 2006.

It was from this studio that many of the household names in yoga, came forth.

From Santa Monica to New Jersey via Frankfurt

👩🏼‍💻 the story June 30

Musician Brian Eno has a word for it:
Scenius.
Not genius but scenius, meaning our success is not due to a fact that we are brilliant, but rather because we are in an environment with people exercising the same craft.
We have access to a culture, in which the art is created or the craft is practiced.

Just like Shiva Rea was part of the original YogaWorks scene in Santa Monica, Jon Bon Jovi was part of the music scene in New Jersey.
There were multiple venues, playing a key role in nurturing the local music scene.
Here is a video of Jon Bon Jovi on stage with Bruce Springsteen in The Stone Pony, in 1987:

And from the Wikipedia page of The Stone Pony:
“The Stone Pony is a New Jersey music venue in Asbury Park, New Jersey known for launching the careers of many New Jersey music legends, including Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, and Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.[1] The club opened in 1973.”

And even the 1996 Frankfurt recording, having such a long setlist, including a stunning acoustic set;
That was no coincidence.

Germany has the strongest fanbase of Europe, and the band considers it their home away from home.
There is a Bon Jovi scenius, in Germany, just like there was a yoga scenius in Santa Monica.

In 2019, one of the two original founders of Yoga Works, Maty Ezraty, passed away unexpectedly; And in October 2020, the Yoga Works company, which had by then operated without her for 15 years and had become a chain of highly successful yoga studios all over North America, filed for bankruptcy.

Yoga means union, and it means that we are all connected.
Sometimes we know where or how the scenius was created, and we can see how it contributes to success.
But we never know how long the scene will live;
We can think it is a public company, when in fact even 15 years after she left the company;
It was her consciousness, still in that scenius.
A consciousness that left, when she left this earth.

So if you find yourself, in a living, breathing scenius;
In a fan community, a yoga community, or any group of people that creatively connect at the same level;
Cherish it.

It’s what brought Frankfurt 1996 its amazing Bon Jovi concert.
And what brought Alanis Morissette and everyone else, their Yoga Sanctuary.

In 1990 Jon Bon Jovi released a successful solo album Blaze of Glory, a nd received MTV’ Julie Brown in a rented villa he called Disgraceland

Which is not today, because last week I already wrote a large chunk about the Blaze of Glory album and “Santa Fe Wednesday”, as this day of the week is called in Rock Star Yoga/ #dailybonjoviyoga.
It didn’t fit into the post, because I already had three Wembley concerts to present to you, in a tidy fashion preferably.
Burying it under layers of New Mexico sand was not tidy.
So I kept the “Making of” Blaze of Glory story for another day, another Santa Fe Wednesday.

Which is today, this new Santa Fe Wednesday.

And next to the story about the making of the Blaze of Glory album, I also have the 7200 degrees Fahrenheit title of this blogpost, to explain!
Because although it was hot in New Mexico, it was not THAT hot!

29 June 2022, is a Wednesday, which means:
🌵🏜️🏍️Santa Fe Day 🦅🏜️🌵
Named after the song on Jon Bon Jovi’s 1990 solo album which he wrote in New Mexico.

On Wednesday, Santa Fe Day, we go out in the wilderness and start with a clean slate.
Just like Jon Bon Jovi, started with a clean slate in 1990:

Asked by Emilio Estevez if they could use Wanted Dead or Alive for the soundtrack of Young Guns II, Jon Bon Jovi, who was coming down from six years of back-to-back touring, and unsure if his band would ever get back together after the gruesome New Jersey Syndicate Tour,
said something along the lines of “Hold my beer.”;
Visited the set, landed his cameo, made a tour by bike across America, and wrote a brand new song, tailored to the film, instead.
One song became two, and ten jam sessions with befriended world-famous musicians later, he was in a villa in the Hollywood Hills, a villa he called Disgraceland, giving what is my favorite Jon Bon Jovi interview ever, to MTV’s Julie Brown, to promote the highly acclaimed Blaze of Glory single and album.

With Blaze of Glory, what had started out as the darkest period in Jon Bon Jovi’s life, had become an artistic transformation.
The band also came back together and made the radically different Keep the Faith, which includes the Jon Bon Jovi song, Dry County, an absolute fan favorite and directly inspired by the Blaze of Glory period.

The album Blaze of Glory, has the song Santa Fe on it.
Santa Fe is perhaps the only song that the fans have been wanting to hear even more than Dry County.
Santa Fe stands for the ultimate rarity, the ultimate gem, only known by those who face the wilderness.

Jon tells the story about this intense period in the band’s life, in the intros of Dry County.

So on Wednesday, we go out in the wilderness and start with a clean slate.

At Summerfest, Milwaukee, 29 June 1985. After just releasing their 2nd album 7800° Fahrenheit

There are two concert recordings of this day.

This Milwaukee recording was already mentioned on June 20;
Because I dated it wrongly.

As it turns out, there were two concerts in Milwaukee, 9 days apart.
The 20 June Milwaukee one, in hindsight, didn’t have a recording at all.
I adjusted this in the 20 June post.
The Milwaukee concert I found, was from June 29.
Which is today.

The second pre-1997 concert that has a recording is the 1996 victory lap of the These Days Tour, when Bon Jovi gave an outstanding series of concerts in Europe:

Because we already talked extensively about 1996 concerts yesterday, I m going to choose the 1985 concert as the soundtrack for today.
And because the Milwaukee concerts have already been mixed up by me once, and need to be handled!
Before I once again can’t tell one Milwaukee gig from the next.

Seventy-eight hundred degrees Fahrenheit

👩🏼‍💻 the story June 29

The final sighting of me on my YouTube channel, discussing the Fahrenheit album song by song…. Before I got lost on Tokyo Road.

If there is one part of my work as a content creator, that has suffered unacceptably – and even more unacceptably since I knew exactly what the work was. Contrary to Rock Star Yoga/ #dailybonjoviyoga, there were zero questions as to what was to be done and how! – then it is my Life lessons in Bon Jovi series for YouTube.

In a song-by-song way, starting at first song from Bon Jovi Runaway, moving up album by album, I would tell a little bit about the history of the song and then tie it to a life lesson.
In a similar way, as I do for this blog.

I also know exactly where I left off:
Tokyo Road, is the next stop.
And it has been for over a month.

The last song I discussed was In and Out of Love, the song before Tokyo Road, all from the Fahrenheit album.

Part of the reason I fell of the wagon there, even though I have researched Tokyo Road multiple times, and I have even filmed it at least once and then threw it all out –
part of the reason is because there is a strange element to that song.
And I wasn’t going to discuss that here, because with the Milwaukee gig and the Blaze of Glory story, I already bit off more than I can chew;
But f that.

Maybe I need to talk about this, to get it out of my system, and get on with it. That I can talk about something else in the video, and leave this questionable bit here.

Because isn’t Tokyo Road about Jon Bon Jovi having sex with a prostitute who he then doesn’t pay because she knew he didn’t have any money?
I m like: “Whoa! Wtf?!”
How can that ever be okay?
The two don’t talk each other’s language, so there is a lot of guess work involved, but that makes the assumption that she knew she would not be paid even harder to believe.

Yet I don’t want to be overly politically correct about the whole thing. It’s art, it’s a great story, it’s every man’s dream to not have to pay because you’re just so wildly attractive and sweet, that the sex worker just can’t NOT have sex with you;
But still.

Tokyo Road was where my Life lessons in Bon Jovi songs- endeavor stranded, and I thought I d probably pick it up after I knew how to ignore this bit of Tokyo Road, and make it about something else entirely.
I mean, who would notice right?
We can just as well talk about the music box, and Japanese cherry blossom.

The concert I selected for today, opens with Tokyo Road.
It begins with the music box from an old Japanese folk song that means “Cherry Blossom (Sakura)”

I do have a lighter story that illustrates that young touring musicians are known to be without money, and often end up making connections with the locals, that would not have happened if they had toured sleeping in expensive hotels and being driven around in limos:

Maybe the life lesson in the more difficult part of the song Tokyo Road is simply that when you know better you do better.

And a second lesson could be that we shouldn’t confuse erotic fantasies, nor the sharing of them by an artist, with reality.

Not confusing fantasy with reality means:
Do I like the fantasy of being a prostitute, just so I could let Jon Bon Jovi, not pay? I do. Which makes his fantasy equally valid, and neither one has anything to do with reality.

The sharing part means:
That you can’t hold an artist accountable for taking us on a journey;
Because by any definition, that is their job.
We are in a relationship with their work, because they take us on these no-guarantees journeys.

Okay, I m done now.
I know enough to pick up Life lessons in Bon Jovi songs at Tokyo Road, on my YouTube.

AND!
I return knowing how to actually pronounce the album’s name 7800° Fahrenheit!
It was not the “Fahrenheit” bit, I was in the dark about. I know how to pronounce German (don’t know the words, but that’s a different matter), and like to pronounce German or French words in an American way too.
But the number part.

What is that in English?

But in our concert for today, the Milwaukee one, Jon says at 13:00 minute:
“We have a brand new album out called seventy-eight hundred degrees Fahrenheit“
“And God willing, we thought it was going to be seventy-eight hundred degrees out here tonight, what do you think, is that alright?”

In the story about Santa Fe day, and how the album Blaze of Glory came about, I mentioned the promotional interview with MTV’s Julie Brown.
Jon and Julie come up with the perfect mix of script, improvisation and genuine chemistry.

The interview is (supposedly) filmed at the 4th of July, Independence Day. And Julie Brown points out to Jon that she has color coded her outfit, in the colors of the American Flag.
At which Jon asks her where the white is, since we can only see the red and blue.

At a later point he unexpectedly lifts her skirt, seeing her underwear and concluding: “Now I see where the white part is.”
Julie squirms: “You nasty boy!”
Jon: “Oh, you know you want to.”
Julie: “I think I do, but I m working right now.”

The two are having such a good time together, the sparks nearly set fire to the Disgraceland mansion.

And I think in there lies the lesson:
To never apologize for things that are hot.
To never walk away from them, nor shy away from them, and to also put more gasoline on the fire whenever you possibly can.

To never go for room temperature, but to get that temperature up to New Mexico level;
Up to sex fantasy level;
Up to Julie and Jon level;
And up to the level of Summerfest 1985 in Milwaukee.

The lesson is to boldly, live your life at 7800° Fahrenheit, even when you don’t know how to pronounce that.

And to bring it, for your best work.

Named after the monster tour, that nearly broke the band and each of its members.
And turned them into legends.

Tuesday’s guided practice is Ashtanga yoga,
a unique school of yoga, with long, prescribed series of poses. Like the long New Jersey tour it has brought many to breaking point!
Ashtanga yoga was one of the first yogas to reach America. Around since the 70s, not understood until this day;)

A very rock star story about Ashtanga yoga is that it was practiced by the Grateful Dead, who brought their ashtanga yoga teacher Larry Schultz on tour with them, in the 90s. Together with Bob Weir from the Grateful Dead, Larry Schultz developed Rocket Yoga.

There are no 28 June concert recordings, no uploads to YouTube.
This means we cannot have a soundtrack of a concert, that was actually performed on this day.

Instead, we’re going to go with a past recording;

“Bettembourg” has not been a soundtrack on this blog yet, even though this concert was on June 11.
We had more to choose from, that day.

Another reason to choose for this concert, now that we have an empty day, is that this concert was remastered and reuploaded by hAnD90, just this weekend.
We didn’t have this recording yet, on June 11.
So we now have an improved recording, to the one I had already added on our playlist.

Uncharted Territory

👩🏼‍💻 the story June 28

I encountered the Bettembourg recording before, because it is a June 11 one.
Not a June 28 one.
And I started this daily blog on June 10, so on June 11, I was still getting my head around what the f I was actually doing. With regard to the yoga, because the schedule I shared above, with all the different types of yoga being assigned to different days was not designed until June 13.
But I was also still very much on the struggle bus figuring out all the concerts that had been on this day, in Bon Jovi history.

Until last week, I actually listed ALL Bon Jovi concerts on that day, including low profile, secretive gigs between two legs of the Fahrenheit tour.
“Between two legs” sounds more erotic than it was!
A leg of a tour, means a stint of concerts on one continent and/or within a certain time frame.
In 1985 Bon Jovi gave concerts in June between two legs of their American tour, that fell off the grid, and hardly anyone and that includes Wikipedia, documented them.

On June 11 I was still in the absolute earliest of stages of getting my feet under the table, yoga wise, format wise, research wise.
And it was in that stage I encountered the Bettembourg recording, thinking:
“What IS Krakelshaff? Is it a venue, is it a village?”
We had other recordings to choose from that day – if you want you can read the 11 June post here –
and not knowing what a Krakelshaff was, was probably not the reason I let it rest, but it certainly didn’t help.
All I encountered when Googling was a veterinary clinic called Krakelshaff, on what looked like an industrial area, outside of Bettembourg.
At least at first glance, just the clinic, not the area, was named Krakelshaff, which I thought was weird and I didn’t regret not being able to use it that day.

And low and behold! Salvation came!
Because as I briefly mentioned in the concert paragraphs above, hAnD90 remastered Bettembourg between 11 June and now;
So not only do we have a far better recording than the one we had before;
But we can now also get our information from the hAnD90 description box below the remastered concert.

The description box warns us Bettembourg is
“Rather a recording for diehards to listen to since it is plagued by constant “metallic feedback”.”
I ll take that diehard fan label! 💪🏽
Let’s go!

And the listener is rewarded:
“Jon seemed to enter Blood On Blood on his electric guitar that he had used for I Believe, giving the track a nice different touch in the beginning.
He also went for some great improvised lyrics in the break of the song!”
You can find timestamps to the beginning of every song, in the description box below the video.

But hAnD90 also solves the location riddle for us;
The only remaining location left, named “Krakelshaff”, is indeed the veterinary clinic.
The Bettembourg concert was built in the middle of nowhere. JUST like the concert prior to that, at recreational park “Het Rutbeek” in Enschede, The Netherlands!

But Enschede -at the 9th of June the last concert for at least the first year I m running this series (remember, I said I started on June 10th) – Enschede, was a normal sized concert.
Bettembourgh was very small!
Only slightly over 10.000 people, which much have been wonderful!

Luxembourg only has half a million inhabitants, and that is nowadays. In 1996 it was less no doubt.
But I think the choice to only have a small crowd, was because they didn’t have the crowd control or experience to make it any larger.
And not because they wouldn’t have been able to sell the tickets.

The crew in Enschede was a team of local professionals, with tons of experience in the music business.
And although Enschede didn’t get back on the map as a location; The business from the people who organized it, exists until this day and for years they were referred to as “the Enschede gang”, after the Bon Jovi concert (and one other, I believe Brian Adams) they had pulled off.
Enschede concert was 100% pro, and the 40.000 people coming to Het Rutbeek, were managed accordingly.

But Luxembourg probably had a lot less to work with. And a lot more working against it.
The description box gives us an article in French, that I think would have the whole story.

I don’t speak French, but I think the photos of the desolated area, speak volumes that they really had to start from scratch.
The words “une prairie en légères”, are under the photo, and probably just mean empty grassland.
Like I said- my French is severely limited!
But thinking they mean it was an actual Luxembourg prairie, that they had to work into a functioning concert ground, doesn’t hurt the story 😉

The concert in “Krakelshaff” is a symbol for going into uncharted territory, for making something happen at the most unlikely place, with limited means.
You may even have to name it yourself.

In this Daily Bon Jovi Series, I use the archives of YouTube of pre-1997 concerts that have already taken place.
And the material is largely static, it either is there or it isn’t.

But it is a good thing to remember, that every concert was once not there. That it required a decision, a plan, execution, and then the band showing up, in order for all this to really happen.
Concerts do not organize themselves; they need people IN IT doing the work and pushing it forward.

It’s the same for your (absent?) yoga practice, and any other part of your life where you may be disheartened or diluted by the absence of something.
You may wonder if you are even allowed to dream or have goals, if there is no physical manifestation of it, in your life or the real world around you.

But you don’t dream somebody else’s dream.
And you can’t find your realized dream in an archive because unlike a Bon Jovi recording, the realization of your dream, the physical manifestation of it, is not there.
It is not something you can Google, to see if it exists.

Your manifested dream is not going to magically upload itself onto YouTube.

Instead, it is your job, to decide, plan, and execute. You are the one who has to bring it to life.

And to start in uncharted territory.

What I have done today, is find other available recordings, of Bon Jovi concerts between June 23-27.

“I d like to dedicate this next song to those who try to control and manipulate you.”

I wouldn’t call it a hard landing, to get back to my daily Bon Jovi yoga and this blog, after attending a Guns N Roses concert;
But perhaps more like a soft landing.

A realization that although I will never regret having chosen Bon Jovi as my main yoga reference, and the core of all my work under my real name (Suzanne Beenackers);
That at the core, there is more to me.
As I suspect there’s more to you, since all humans are infinitely complex and cannot be pinned down to one genre or band.

But with me, I ve always had an understanding, that the core of me was not Bon Jovi.
It was Guns N Roses.
Bon Jovi is a cultural language, it is symbolism. It is a communication tool that allows us to talk to each other about yoga and life, in a way we understand on an emotional level. Which is very important. I think the emotional level is the only level, where it makes sense to strive for understanding.
The cognitive level, when it comes to yoga, will only let you stray from the path even further.

And I also believe that in order to teach one another, we must share the same values. We have to resonate on the same level, and although we no longer have churches to identify with;
Other cultural languages have taken their place.
Bon Jovi is such a language, it is such a community; That takes the place of what was once a church. Jonny’s church of rock n’ roll, is a truth.
Although I don’t think Jon Bon Jovi would ever take his own phrase (Jonny’s church of rock n’ roll, is used during the performance of the song Lay Your Hands On Me) that seriously, I do believe there are core truths and beliefs, there is a message, in Bon Jovi.
A message that resonates with us, or we wouldn’t be here.

I really believe that me teaching you yoga, through Bon Jovi, allows me to teach you something I would never have been able to convey, if I had stuck to traditional methods.
But at the same time:
Bon Jovi is not me.

And if I would simplify, and limit myself to one band, it would not be Bon Jovi but Guns N’ Roses, because it fits my identity better.
Guns N Roses is more rebellious, more antagonist, which is very freeing, and makes way for your liberation.

Although I was classically schooled to be a yoga teacher, my inspiration came from Madonna doing Ashtanga yoga, in the late 20th century.
And her movie The Next Best Thing, gave me the “energy”, of what being a yoga teacher was about to me.
Now I made many mistakes, and did not succeed to bring that to life. “The first time”, I would say. Because I think this blog and my daily Bon Jovi, are the start of getting it right the second time around.
That as unconventional as my teaching methods might end up being, and as blurred as the contours of my yoga teachings are;
The past few years have been my retraining, and this blog is a new start, of a second career in yoga.
A new chance, to get it right.

There were many reasons why my first career in yoga didn’t live up to its Next Best Thing/ Madonna promise, but a very important one was that I was insufficiently tuned into the energy, of what had attracted me to yoga.
The energy, of Madonna’s athletic 1998 body.
The energy of a large yoga studio, as we see featured in The Next Best Thing.

There was a strength and virility in those representations, that is immediately lost if you start to replicate them based on the “what”.
When the “what” becomes: Doing yoga.
Instead of “doing something that makes you strong and energetic”.
When the “what” becomes: Teaching yoga.
Instead of “stepping into your power as a professional and entrepreneur”

In 2019 after visiting the Bon Jovi concert, and already doing yoga with Bon Jovi music, I began to understand that to me, the key to yoga had always been to get the energy UP.
Not down.
And that I wanted to develop Rock Star Yoga, that would help you elevate your energy. The focus would be on empowerment, not relaxation.

But the Guns N’ Roses concert taught me the short cut, the powered up version of that. Or, perhaps, even the next level that you should be going to at some point, if you want to be truly free.
And that is how aggressively standing up for yourself, helps you on your spiritual path.
Aggression is a trailblazer, that unblocks all the social conventions, unspoken rules, and other community based blocks that could keep you in the darkness forever.

The energy of Bon Jovi is strong and energetic, in particular compared to what a normal yoga class would feel like.
So it’s definitely an improvement, and it suits the image I had of “Rock Star Yoga”. I m not disappointed, nor do I believe that as a community we’d be better off having Guns N Roses as our leading theme in Rock Star Yoga.
And there is too much of Catholic in me, to ever give up the prayers, and the on your knees, the water, the lay your hands on me, and the countless other Catholic references in Bon Jovi music.
I will never give that up.

But I do believe that it is important to bring into the mix, the powerful next-level gateways Guns N’ Roses creates.
And that there will be times in your life, when associating yourself and your yoga practice, with Guns N Roses, will help you breakout of soul sucking, disempowering, situations, where you felt like a victim.

Anger, is you taking back ownership.
Anger, is you receiving all the energy back, you have been giving away to other people.

The lower, friendlier vibe of daily life, of yoga communities and of the Bon Jovi community, come with the “risk”, of focusing on the community first.
At the expense of your own personal needs, and wants.
At the expense, worst case scenario, of your purpose, the reason you are here on this earth.

I say risk, quotation marks, because having a community to give to, to contribute to, can also bring you into your power and can also be your purpose.
But when you start feeling it is about NOT doing certain things, more than it is about what you do, what you contribute, and how you thrive as a community member;
Then being part of a community becomes a risk.
Then being in a community becomes about being silent and not stepping on toes. There is nothing empowering about that.

When you find yourself there, then Bon Jovi energy is probably not enough to get you out, because of the strong element of community still being in there.
That creates conflict and that messes with your head.

In times like that, you need to cut ties, spit, curse, and draw a motherfuckin’ line that no one under any circumstance is ever allowed to cross, ever again.

It’s time for Guns N Roses.

I’ve chosen Ashtanga Yoga for your Guns N’ Roses Yoga, a unique school of yoga, with very long yoga sessions.

And also because Ashtanga is quite the rock star story;
It was practiced by the Grateful Dead, who brought their ashtanga yoga teacher Larry Schultz on tour with them, in the 90s. Together with Bob Weir from the Grateful Dead, Larry Schultz developed Rocket Yoga.
Which I included in the above mentioned yoga playlist.

👩🏼‍💻 the story June 26

When Guns N’ Roses played Groningen, Axl and Slash, but perhaps other bandmembers too, slept at De Prinsentuin, one of the oldest hotels, in the center of the city.
Groningen, just like Nijmegen where Goffertpark is often host to rock shows too, doesn’t have the luxury hotels Amsterdam has.
Which is why bands rarely stay in those cities and usually fly in from Amsterdam with a helicopter.

Another option from Groningen is to stay in Landgoed Lauswold, a luxury hotel on the countryside, and only a 45 minute drive from Groningen.
I heard other musicians have chosen to stay there.

But Axl and Slash were stationed in the heart of Groningen, at the kingly Prinsentuin. and they had been seen eating in the same area as the other guests.
I must say, that I immediately thought of breakfast, with one of those breakfast buffets where Axl and Slash had taken their croissants from the same breadbasket as the rest of Groningen;
But the few lines from the newspaper article that I can read without taking a year long subscription, only mentions dinner.
But who knows, maybe they also had breakfast with the other guests too, why not.

What was clear was that they (the first three lines only mentioned Axl, actually, but in the title it had Slash too) had not wanted to have dinner on their room, and not in the private restaurant Nassau either;
They wanted to have dinner at the public Brasserie, instead.
And so they did.

It was a stark contrast with the Rolling Stones, with Keith and Mick staying in two different hotels in Amsterdam, about one week prior.
The band had split up in separate “bubbles” to protect everyone from Covid.
Video footage showed Mick Jagger stepping in and out of cars quickly, and keeping interaction limited to friendly but hastily waving to the crowds.
No stories have surfaced there about him sharing bread baskets, but hours before the show would start, he did test positive on Covid, and the whole show had to be cancelled.

Stories said everybody was tested regularly, but perhaps that was incorrect and he really only tested because he wasn’t feeling well.

But regardless of how much testing was done with the Rolling Stones;
The fact that their two front men stayed at different hotels, and the fact that they stayed away from the public and did not mingle, illustrates they were tighter with their Covid protocols than Guns N’ Roses were.

And there is such a deeply powerful lesson in that.

Because I believe the reason rock music resonates with us so powerfully, is because it represents freedom.
Freedom we give up way too often, we let it be taken from us, because we lack an understanding of what it means, to be free.

Rock music, has the message that you are free.
And rock stars are the messengers, of that freedom.

What Axl and Slash’s refusal to hide, their refusal to live in fear either for Covid or for the public;
What that refusal teaches us, is that freedom is more than a human right.
It is more than a nice thing to have, when the moon and the stars are right, and the coast is clear, and there are not millions at stake and there isn’t an insurance company breathing down your neck to tour the world in a permanent state of separation from Life.

They showed us that freedom is more than a shall-I or shan’t I.
More than a careful weighing of the pros and cons and how much nagging you are prepared to endure and how many battles you are prepared to fight.

Axl and Slash staying in a local hotel and being among the other guests, having their dinner and breakfast, shows us that more than anything;
That freedom is a choice.

A fuckin’ choice.

Welcome to another day on this new daily blog! Every day you get
the Bon Jovi inspired yoga for that day
+ a Bon Jovi concert soundtrack for the day
+ a story!
Ranging from anywhere between
– a 2000 word blogpost, lavishly wrapped under, over and around, all things yoga and Bon Jovi;
– to refreshingly missing!
THAT IS TODAY!

I m going to my first concert in three years, and I m also staying over, for the first time in 2.5 years.
So I m packing, and have a to-do list that contains things like:
“Wifi code for A.”
A. takes care of my cats.
And my house needs to be cleaned, after suffering from total neglect, as it is almost the 2 week anniversary of this series!
Days when I spent up to 10 hours, just on posts like these, the many playlists and the page that came with it; and on designing a yoga blueprint for the days of the week.
All things I m happy with, and the amount of extra work is a hallmark of any startup phase, but it is of course not sustainable to put in this many hours, in the long run.

In other words, today is when the whole thing comes crashing down, you guys.
When daily blogging AND daily listing out all the concerts Bon Jovi has played on-this-day, AND select a YouTube audio or video that matches the day as your soundtrack; Comes to a halt!
Something has got to give.

This is the day Life steps in and says:
“Enough, Suzanne!”
And I have to cut whatever I can cut.

The good news is:
I know what I m gonna cut.
I m no longer going to list ALL (pre-1997) Bon Jovi concerts;
And just share the ones that have YouTube uploads.

And today, June 22 is a perfect day to make that switch because there are no recordings available from pre-1997 Bon Jovi concerts on this day.

If I would have shared the June 22 list with you
(for old times sake: it was
“1. opening for the Scorpions
22 June, 1984, Indianapolis, Indiana, venue; Indianapolis Market Square Arena
and
2. secret/ small gig between two legs of the Fahrenheit tour:
22 June, 1985, Detroit, Michigan, venue; Hart Plaza “

since I had already done the research yesterday!)
I would have opted the soundtrack for today to be a concert upload from between June 10 and now, that we had not used yet.

But because it coincides with me going away and not wanting to blog when I m away; And also because I now understand I’ll have to seriously start culling and capping in this series, and start putting out multiple-day posts more often and put my 10 hour days on this blog behind me for good;
I am going for the Wembleys!

The three shows were set up to provide footage for an official Bon Jovi VHS, but ended up with a lot of last minute switching on what was going to be “the correct” show for this.
I don’t remember the details but I do remember it was an exciting story.
Although I admit I find all stories from bootleg traders and all the innerest of innerest intel they have, terribly fascinating!
I got the 22 June 1985 gig: “secret/ small gig between two legs of the Fahrenheit tour” through a list I got from one of them!

So I have a thing for these stories behind the concerts, including all the switching and choices made on the three nights in Wembley.
But your definition of what is top-of-the-bill fascinating may be a different one of course!

Jon’s vocals, the setlist, the overall energy – they’re all very good.
Originally, this was the first night to go on sale, but after the ticket sales were that high, a “third” night was added before the first two shows, pushing this one back to being the second concert.”
I remember when I listened to this show in 2020/2021, Jon said something like:
“You’re the real fans!”
Referring to the fact that this night’s attendees, were the fans that had gone through lengths, and probably waited a night in line for their record store, to get a ticket to the original two shows.

Damned TV and hAnD90, belong to the same “guild”.
I think we fans are incredibly lucky they are around, they are true keepers of the flame and the reason new generations can tune in, and get on the Bon Jovi bus, so easily.
The bootleggers ARE the new generations!
My impression is they re mostly millennials, not Gen X, and I ve met fans online that were 13, 14 years old.

I believe without fans having a chance to interact with the material so intimately, Bon Jovi would not have stayed this big.

Bon Jovi seems to have understood the importance of having your fans record, play, and share your material.
Since the 90s there are “bootleggers roll your tapes” announcements by Jon Bon Jovi, mid-concert when they were about to play something special.
And where Guns N Roses material, at least until a few years ago, was taken down from YouTube all the time;
The legacy of Bon Jovi is kept by fans, creating this incredible archive all over YouTube.
It’s like an ever-expanding Bon Jovi library, provided by and maintained by fans.

Bon Jovi’s choice to use bootleggers-inclusive speech in the 90s, has paid off in having the best documented history of rock n roll.
It has paid off in having 13 year old fans in 2022.

It has paid off because when you shine your light on someone else,
when you acknowledge the other in their power of what it is that they do best;
They will do the same for you.

“Bootleggers, roll your tapes,”
is the symbol, of befriending your antagonists, without holding back;
And being rewarded for it.

Symbolism and alignment

👩🏼‍💻 the story June 21

A new daily blogging series, about Bon Jovi AND yoga?
No surprise that on day 12, I still feel like I m in startup mode and pulling my weight just setting it up.

I also have two YouTube channels where I ve been looking for ages how to share Rock Star Yoga/ #dailybonjoviyoga…
And although I felt so called to invent and teach “Rock Star Yoga” (I ve been a yoga teacher for 15 years + and have a YouTube database filled with hundreds of my own yoga videos)
I have been unsuccessful in the past, bringing it to life.
Every time I started filming I dropped out, because I knew it was not 100% aligned.
I could feel, wrestling my way through making and posting those videos, that my heavy lifting was me putting in work, to compensate something that wasn’t right.
Something was not, in alignment.

Alignment is a term best known from astronomy, and 5 planets were in alignment last night.
Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.
The last time that happened was 18 years ago, and it’s always difficult to see them. You need clear weather.

Since I do not know anything about astronomy, or astrology, I cannot tell you anything more about it.
I do know significantly more about movies though!
And I can tell you that planetary alignment plays an important role in the movie Tomb Raider 2001, with Angelina Jolie.
Where she stares at the sky with a gigantic telescope at an alignment of 9 planets that happens every 5000 years.

In yoga the word alignment means how, you do the pose.
If your knee is straight over your ankle, in Warrior Pose, that sort of thing.
As a yoga teacher, that is not something I m invested in, to be honest.
But the word alignment is also used in the personal development world, and there it means something way more personal and relevant.
Something way more empowering.

Alignment FOR YOU.

One of the reasons I think planning, getting things done – and even doing yoga to counter balance working on someone else’s agenda, and feeling overwhelmed – are questionable solutions, is because they could be covering up that you are out of alignment.
That the life you are living is not in alignment with your goals, your dreams, and perhaps even prevents you from stepping into your identity.

Feeling you have to be someone you’re not, in order to do things you don’t want to, is something we should all fear and run from, faster than from the devil himself.

On the other side, if you are IN alignment, and ON purpose?
No matter how hard something is, you’ll do it.
Your identity will just form itself around it.

When you ARE fan of a band, you WILL get tickets.
Hell or highwater, you will get a day off, and perhaps you are even so big of a fan that you’ll wait for hours in advance, and even go for a day without food, water or toilet, if that’s what it takes to get first row.
There is zero resistance, because you are 100% in alignment with who you are (who you identify as being);
And it is in alignment with your values, your priorities.

Keep that in mind the next time you feel resistance:
Is it because the thing you are making yourself do, is absolutely not the direction you want to take in life?
Are you out of alignment?

Because if you were in alignment, it could take hundreds of dollars, an entire day in the sun with hardly water, food or toilet, and you’d still do it.

Maybe that is why I have little interest in alignment IN the yoga pose:
If you are on purpose, doing yoga; If you FEEL it, and YOU RE IN it, in the same way you feel it and are totally in it when you visit a concert;
Who cares about the little things.
You re either in alignment and on purpose; Or you re not, and then micromanaging your position is not going to improve it.
It is like finding ways to “perfectly” wait in line, in the heat, for your Billie Eilish concert; When you are a Guns N Roses fan.

When you feel resistance, it’s likely you re standing in your version of the line for a Billie Eilish concert.
You don’t need to tweak that, you need to get out.

I spent the morning aligning our yoga schedule, by adding emojis/ symbols to visualize things like yoga, music, tour, concert, New Jersey.
And I realized how much better symbols work, than words.

But that I needed those 11 days of blogging, and those thousands of words, to get to this day 12, of being able to add the symbols to the days, music and yoga.
I needed to expand, and go big, before I was able to cull, simplify, and symbolize.

Most yoga systems are exactly the opposite.
They will learn you one thing, one exercise, one series, and tell you to expand from that.
You will never hear me say such a thing, for more reasons that one, but alignment is one of them.

Do the things you can digest more of than all the other people you know. That suck you in deeper and deeper, every time.
The things you can’t NOT do.

Because everyone can do something small, for 5 minutes.
Doing something small comes with a huge risk of doing something that is not FOR YOU.
Everyone can listen to one Billie Eilish song, but only if Billie Eilish holds a deeper meaning for you, and truly resonates with who you are, will you listen on repeat and go to her concerts.

Nothing is ever “just” that thing. Just like an emoji is not just an emoji.
Everything means something, symbolizes something.
The things in your life are not just activities (like yoga), or bands (like Guns N Roses), or interests;
They communicate a message, that you are absolutely fascinated with. They represent something that you deeply value. You are in a conversation with these things you love.

The things that matter to you most, symbolize who you are, and they contain the meaning of life. Time and other resources spent on them, will always be an intensely satisfying experience.

They are always, in perfect alignment, not just every 18 years, or every 5000 years, and not just when the sky is clear.

Everyday you are in perfect alignment, with the things you love.

I m cheekily changing the title from:
“Engagement is ..” to “Playing around, is the highest form of love.”
Cheeky, because I know playing around is associated with sex, and not with fiddling with your playlists on your YouTube channel;
As I ve been doing this Sunday.

And it wasn’t just this weekend and this morning, when I spent copious amounts of time on YouTube, and discovered that the answer to “What do you DO”, as a content creator, can just as well be answered as:
“I make playlists on YouTube”
as with:
“I m a blogger and a YouTuber.”

When I started this blog 11 days ago, it changed everything.
I knew it would be an important step for developing Rock Star Yoga, a concept I ve been playing around with since 2019.
I knew it was important for understanding what I would be writing about, what I would be filming, and if I would ever actually teach, yoga again.
And important to what I would be calling myself, what my identity would be.

But I didn’t know how quickly it would go, and that here, on day 11, after a whole weekend of massive Yoga Playlist Renovation!
I can share with you the moving parts of what Rock Star Yoga/ #dailybonjoviyoga is all about.

Rock Star Yoga/ #dailybonjoviyoga IS THIS daily blog.

👩🏼‍💻 The Story June 20

I cannot remember I was ever this absorbed in a project.
It has never taken me so long to fully understand what wanted to come through.
Years.

But now that I ve started this daily blog, and came up with the schedule on day 3 or something, I am on this train of knowing what the next step is, and I can barely keep up with the work. I happily, give my days to this project.
I am fully, immersed in it and the work just flows out of me.

I feel I have done more work in the past 10 days than in the past 4 years.

Not because of hustle and grind; but because I let myself fully engage in what I love.
Writing.
Yoga.
Bon Jovi.
Making YouTube playlists.
And all for days on end, often until way after midnight.

I hardly need any sleep, yet I feel more awake than ever.

If you want to learn an important yoga lesson today;
Find out how you can love yoga.
Do you like making playlists on YouTube, like I do?
Then do that.
Do you like taking online courses, or browsing Instagram, or making collages? Listening to podcasts?
Then do all those things, with yoga!

So starting at the first day of this blog (June 10), working our way way up, we encountered a video of Springsteen w/ Jon Bon Jovi – Kansas City (New Jersey 1987);
And a recording of the legendary show opening the Giants stadium.

With Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen both being Giants;
I decided to toy around with that word, for the story for this post. And I vaguely remembered some concept like Among Giants or something.
I expected it to be some sort of self help book, and maybe it is, but I found something that fascinated me even more!

Toying around with the concept Among Giants, I found a cooking channel on YouTube where they cook with tiny appliances!
I encountered it through this May 2022 article:

It sums up 7 reasons why people love the channel so much, and every reason comes with a video.
Because John Bongiovi Sr., and Jon’s Soul Foundation, have a pasta brand (Bongiovi), I have picked the video for mini lasagna!

This Daily Bon Jovi Yoga blog is about Bon Jovi concerts, that were performed on this day;
And then I connect that to Rock Star Yoga/ #dailybonjoviyoga.
I find a way to let it spark, inspire, and enrich, your yoga practice.

Just like Jay, I want you to take something that is functional and everyday, like stretching, breathing, doing a yoga video you found on YouTube;
And turn that into something else.

Something that may look small, and unimportant, and makes you wonder:
“What difference does it make?”
If the yoga you do is the same yoga everybody else does, that gets ticked off a list?
Or if you are aware, and awake!
And treat your yoga like a milestone, like being on stage with Bruce Springsteen in The Stone Pony!

What if you identify as an artist, and treat yoga as something creative you do, and maybe even imagine you have almost 1 million followers who want to see your interpretation of it?

It is a game changer.

And the difference is gigantic.
