From Santa Monica to New Jersey via Frankfurt | Bon Jovi 30 June 1996, Frankfurt, Germany, Waldstadion

Welcome to another day on this new daily blog! Every day you get:
(1) a story
Ranging from anywhere between
– a 2000 word blogpost, lavishly wrapped under, over and around, all things yoga and Bon Jovi;
– to refreshingly missing!

And today the story is not missing, but it is predominantly shaped around the fascinating back story of one of the most beloved yoga teachers, Shiva Rea.

(2) You also get a Bon Jovi concert, a soundtrack for today
Also added to the on-this-day playlist, with all the concerts from this blog:

Today

So today is June 30!
Let’s dive in: What is the yoga for today?
What is the Bon Jovi concert or concerts, on this day?

🤘🏾🧘🏾Yoga 30 June

.

Made in 1999, this was one of the first yoga cds, and the best one ever made i.m.o. The original box with booklet and poster; It’s an education.

30 June 2022, is a Thursday, which means:
Thursday, showtime! Keep the Faith/ I ll Sleep When I m Dead Tour
do yoga with: 🌊Shiva Rea playlist
or buy her 1999 double album 2h practice, Yoga Sanctuary
or freestyle with 🛐 Keep the Faith album✝️ or the 🏟️KTF tour🌎

I learned about Shiva Rea’s work through my vinyasa power yoga teacher training;
Our trainer was from California too, and she introduced Shiva Rea to these early 20th century classes of students, who would become Holland’s first vinyasa power yoga teachers.
I was one of them, and having been introduced to Shiva’s work, at such an early stage, is one of the many things I am grateful for.

I credit Shiva’s 1999 double cd Yoga Sanctuary for the quality of my teachings.
The way she used her voice, her pacing, choice of words;
Even her Californian accent became mine when I taught.
And to this day, one of my bigger goals is to have her album Yoga Sanctuary play a major role in my personal practice.
There were years I did the 2 cds from Yoga Sanctuary on December 31;
As a way to close the old year and start the new.

Shiva’s work has a natural grace as well as strength. And it breathes and feels like the Californian shore.

If you choose a guided practice, then Thursday is Shiva’s Day, in Rock Star Yoga/ #DailyBonJoviYoga.
And if you practice on your own, you can choose Bon Jovi’s Keep the Faith album (1992) as your soundtrack, or a show from the Keep the Faith tour, for example:
17 June 1993, Yokahama

You can find many Daily Energy videos in the 🌊Shiva Rea playlist

Thursday is one of the three days marked “Showtime!”
Meaning that stronger and longer practices, are invited.

Just like a tour schedule, the Rock Star Yoga/ #dailybonjoviyoga schedule, has days when you go for a peak performance, and days when you noodle around.
The Showtime! days are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and I have paired them up with teachers that challenge you and have longer practices available on YouTube.
Neither the cd Yoga Sanctuary, nor Yoga Shakti dvd which was Shiva’s dvd I practiced with extensively, are available on YouTube.
But there is still plenty from other dvd’s that made it to YouTube;
You can find the more relaxing videos at the top, and the more energetic once at the bottom half.

do yoga with: 🌊Shiva Rea playlist

I also included a video on that playlist, which you may not recognize as to why it is part of the Shiva Rea playlist:
A business talk by Maty Ezraty.

This is the (current) description box of the playlist, with background information on the type of yoga Shiva Rea teaches, and why I included Maty Ezraty’s business talk:

description box 🌊Shiva Rea playlist
“Shiva Rea is known for her moving, free-flowing form of yoga. In 1999, her first recorded teachings were released, a double cd “Yoga Sanctuary” which had a recommendation from Alanis Morissette. She has created many yoga dvds combining yoga and dance, and she teaches around the world.

The final video, is one to provide historical context to why Shiva Rea became such an early leader in the yoga world;
It was because her roots are in the original Yoga Works community, in Santa Monica.

Yoga Works Santa Monica was founded in 1988, by Maty Ezraty and Chuck Miller.
When they sold it in 2004, this location alone was offering more than 120 classes per week to more than 700 students per day.
The Wanderlust interview with Maty Ezraty must have been filmed shortly after, so around 2006.

It was from this studio that many of the household names in yoga, came forth.
Shiva Rea being one of them.

Shiva Rea teaches to this day and you can find her classes here:
https://shivarea.love/classes

On the back of the double cd “Yoga Sanctuary”, an album that together with the booklet and the poster with all the poses is the best yoga tool/ yoga teacher training tool, I think was ever created;
You can find Alanis Morisette’s recommendation.

“Beautiful! I take it with me on the road”
Alanis Morisette on Yoga Sanctuary

Making Shiva Rea’s recordings not just indispensable to yoga students and yoga teachers in training;
But for rock stars as well.

So on Thursday, we go all in with
option 1: 🤘🏾🧘🏾 Guided yoga practice
:
do yoga with: 🌊Shiva Rea playlist
or buy her 1999 double album 2h practice, Yoga Sanctuary

or “Thursday, showtime! Keep the Faith/ I ll Sleep When I m Dead Tour”
option 2: 🤘🏾🧘🏾 Practice yoga on your own:
or freestyle with 🛐 Keep the Faith album✝️ or the 🏟️KTF tour🌎
For example: 17 June 1993, Yokahama

—🤘🏾🧘🏾 🎶🎸 that was your practice for today 🤘🏾🧘🏾 🎶🎸—

The concert part!
What concerts were played on June 30?

🗓️🎶🎸Bon Jovi 30 June

.
There is one pre-1997 concert recording of this day,
from the 1996 victory lap of the These Days Tour, when Bon Jovi gave an outstanding series of concerts in Europe:

Cross Road/ These Days Tour
30 June 1996, Frankfurt, Germany, Waldstadion
YouTube upload:
Bon Jovi | Live at Waldstadion | Frankfurt 1996

30 June 1996, Frankfurt, Germany🇩🇪
is the soundtrack for today

from the description box:
“One of the most iconic concerts of Bon Jovi’s career!
This includes not only one of their longest setlists, but also the only electric performance of Wanted Dead Or Alive in 1996!
“.

Frankfurt 1996 has been added to the playlist,
“Bon Jovi concerts on this day”

From Santa Monica to New Jersey via Frankfurt

👩🏼‍💻 the story June 30

Musician Brian Eno has a word for it:
Scenius.
Not genius but scenius, meaning our success is not due to a fact that we are brilliant, but rather because we are in an environment with people exercising the same craft.
We have access to a culture, in which the art is created or the craft is practiced.

Just like Shiva Rea was part of the original YogaWorks scene in Santa Monica, Jon Bon Jovi was part of the music scene in New Jersey.
There were multiple venues, playing a key role in nurturing the local music scene.
Here is a video of Jon Bon Jovi on stage with Bruce Springsteen in The Stone Pony, in 1987:
Springsteen w/ Jon Bon Jovi – Kansas City (New Jersey 1987)

And from the Wikipedia page of The Stone Pony:
“The Stone Pony is a New Jersey music venue in Asbury Park, New Jersey known for launching the careers of many New Jersey music legends, including Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, and Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.[1] The club opened in 1973.”

And even the 1996 Frankfurt recording, having such a long setlist, including a stunning acoustic set;
That was no coincidence.

Germany has the strongest fanbase of Europe, and the band considers it their home away from home.
There is a Bon Jovi scenius, in Germany, just like there was a yoga scenius in Santa Monica.

In 2019, one of the two original founders of Yoga Works, Maty Ezraty, passed away unexpectedly; And in October 2020, the Yoga Works company, which  had by then operated without her for 15 years and had become a chain of highly successful yoga studios all over North America, filed for bankruptcy.

Yoga means union, and it means that we are all connected.
Sometimes we know where or how the scenius was created, and we can see how it contributes to success.
But we never know how long the scene will live;
We can think it is a public company, when in fact even 15 years after she left the company;
It was her consciousness, still in that scenius.
A consciousness that left, when she left this earth.

So if you find yourself, in a living, breathing scenius;
In a fan community, a yoga community, or any group of people that creatively connect at the same level;
Cherish it.

It’s what brought Frankfurt 1996 its amazing Bon Jovi concert.
And what brought Alanis Morissette and everyone else, their Yoga Sanctuary.

Updated daily with the most recent date at the top.

Among Giants | Bon Jovi concerts 10, 11 and 19 June | Giants Stadium, New Jersey 1989

Legendary day on this blog, for more reasons than one, because first of all;
I ve added a playlist!

Bon Jovi concerts on this day:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLiGoDE3C06ScAo9UN4GyhtQWYfl3d6jMT

The list contains all concerts discussed so far, in their correct chronological order, and the list is updated daily.

Rock Your Yoga

And today is also the first day, where I ll be adding in yoga!
I ve totally found my mojo, and know exactly what I ll be teaching in the upcoming years.
You ll see that coming up on my two YouTube channels English and Dutch.

There is so many good stuff out there on YouTube, so many lineages to choose from.
What I do with Rock Star Yoga/ #dailybonjoviyoga, is inspire you to check it out and rock your yoga!

Today, June 19th 2022, is the first day I ll start including the yoga, in this daily blog.

this post

So traditionally (it’s day 10 of this blog!) we have the following sections:
-the “Bon Jovi concerts on this day” -section
Today, we cover three days!

I will list the June 19th concerts, but there were no recordings to make a soundtrack for today,
which has allowed me to revisit the concerts given on the first dates on this blog, that were not consistently covered, because the blog had not settled on its format yet.

I found an epic concert to go with today!
And also very rare footage of something you will definitely want to see!
Both recordings from the heart of New Jersey.

And as always, in this blog:
-a story of whatever the concert or the day sparks.
I will take you to a fairytale-like concept of Walking with Giants that you will remember the rest of the day, if not year!

And today, for the first time, I m going to tie the yoga blueprint, to this blog.
Depending on the weekday, there is a themed list of resources to choose from.

19 June 2022, is a SUNDAY!

.
Rock Star Yoga #dailybonjoviyoga for Sunday 19 June

Sunday means Vintage Yoga:
Time to go back to how it all started.

For a guided vintage yoga practice, check the playlist!
Playlist Vintage Yoga Videos + tv

Or: do your own yoga, f.e. traditional hatha yoga poses
And choose from Sunday’s vintage Bon Jovi soundtracks:

Sunday vintage album:
Do yoga with one of the first two albums from Bon Jovi,
💿Bon Jovi- Bon Jovi (1984)
or 📀 7800° Fahrenheit (1985)
Both albums are about 50 minutes long.

Sunday vintage concert:
Or practice with their first concerts,
-a world tour opening for major acts and playing smaller venues in the USA (September 1983-November 1984)
For example: 16 June 1984 Allentown Fairgrounds, Pennsylvania 40 minutes
-or their Fahrenheit tour (April 1985 – December 1985)

—🤘🏾🧘🏾 🎶🎸 that was your practice for today 🤘🏾🧘🏾 🎶🎸—

The concert part!
What concerts were played on June 19?

Remember – for multiple reasons – this is going to be a deep dive down the Bon Jovi rabbit hole. I ll let you know when you can come back safely…

Duck! 🐰

What [ pre-1997 ] Bon Jovi concerts were played on June 19?

There were 2 concerts on different tours, played by Bon Jovi:

1.First tour, opening for the Scorpions
19 June, 1984, Charleston, West Virginia, Charleston Civic Center

2.New Jersey Syndicate Tour:
19 June 1989 Philadelphia, Spectrum (first night)
There is an excellent recording of Philadelphia 1989: But that one is from earlier that year, March 8.
19 June was the first of a double night, some sources even say first of a triple night, in Philadelphia.

Neither show has a recording, which is why I have decided to go back to the first day of this blog, June 10, when I didn’t yet have this format.
So let’s check what we have there:

What [ pre-1997 ] Bon Jovi concerts were played on June 10?

If we go back to the first day of this blog, June 10, to see if there are concert recordings there, that I did not yet highlight or retrieve, what do we find?

There were 4 concerts on June 10

1. First tour, opening for the Scorpions:
10 June, 1984, New Haven, Connecticut, New Haven Veterans Memorial Coliseum

2. Slippery When Wet Tour:
10 June, 1987, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Five Season Center

3. Keep the Faith/ I ll Sleep When I m Dead Tour:
10 June, 1993, Osaka, Japan, Osaka Castle Hall (second night)

And the gig already mentioned in the original 10 June blog:
4. Cross Road/ These Days Tour:

10 June 1995, Basel, Switzerland, St.Jacob, Stadium
recording:
Bon Jovi | Live at St. Jakob Stadium | Basel 1995
And my 2020/2021 video review  #14 Basel, Switzerland June 10

With June 10 not offering new recordings either, I will go to June 11.

What [ pre-1997 ] Bon Jovi concerts were played on June 11?

Even further down the rabbit hole 🐇
If we go back to the second day of this blog, June 11, are there concert recordings not yet highlighted or retrieved?

There were 4 concerts on June 11

1. Slippery When Wet Tour: (*1)
11 June, 1987, Kansas City, Missouri, Kemper Arena
Only one video exists!
From Bad Name:
Bon Jovi | You Give Love A Bad Name | * Fight Speech * | Kansas City 1987
+ more or less unrelated, but too cool not to share:
Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi singing “Kansas City” in legendary music venue The Stone Pony in New Jersey!!:
Springsteen w/ Jon Bon Jovi – Kansas City (New Jersey 1987)

(*1) Half a day after writing this post, a Kemper Arena 1987 concert was uploaded to YouTube, but this is from February 26th 1987
( not 11 June, 1987)

The Giants Stadium show became legendary overnight. source jane_jbj on Twitter

2. New Jersey Syndicate Tour:
11 June 1989 East Rutherford, New Jersey, Giants Stadium
This show was mentioned by me, in the original 11 June post, but I didn’t watch it.
So this will be the our 11 June soundtrack for today, the 19th:
Bon Jovi | Legendary First Concert at Giants Stadium | 30th Anniversary | New Jersey 1989

3. Cross Road/ These Days Tour:
11 June 1995, Spielberg/ Zeltweg, Austria, Österreich-Ring
The audio of this show was already given in this blog in the June 11 post:
Bon Jovi – Zeltweg, Austria 11.06.1995 (Full Show)
Including my (Suzanne Beenackers) video review:
#15 Zeltweg/ Spielberg, Austria June 11 | 1995 Bon Jovi Concert Series (Stories)
So that one was already covered.
But there is another one! One year later:

4. Cross Road/ These Days Tour:
11 June 1996, Bettembourg, Luxembourg, Krakelshaff
Bon Jovi – Luxembourg 11.06.1996 (incomplete audio)
The length is 2h:18min, and only Rocking all over the World is missing.
The Luxembourg recording will be our soundtrack for the next day, we don’t have a good recording!

🏳️ It’s safe to come back!

So starting at the first day of this blog (June 10), working our way way up, we encountered a video of  Springsteen w/ Jon Bon Jovi – Kansas City (New Jersey 1987);
And a recording of the legendary show opening the Giants stadium.

Your soundtrack concert for today June 19th is therefor, June 11 1989:
Bon Jovi | Legendary First Concert at Giants Stadium | 30th Anniversary | New Jersey 1989

With Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen both being Giants;
I decided to toy around with that word, for the story for this post. And I vaguely remembered some concept like Among Giants or something.
I expected it to be some sort of self help book, and maybe it is, b
ut I found something that fascinated me even more!

Toying around with the concept Among Giants, I found a cooking channel on YouTube where they cook with tiny appliances!
I encountered it through this May 2022 article:
🗞️ Why Do People Love the YouTube Channel “Walking With Giants”?
And it says:

“Walking With Giants was created by a man named Jay who identifies himself as an artist.”
It sums up 7 reasons why people love the channel so much, and every reason comes with a video.
Because John Bongiovi Sr., and Jon’s Soul Foundation, have a pasta brand (Bongiovi), I have picked the video for mini lasagna!
🎬🍝
MINI LASAGNA! by YouTube channel Walking With Giants (908K subscribers)

This Daily Bon Jovi Yoga blog  is about Bon Jovi concerts, that were performed on this day;
And then I connect that to Rock Star Yoga/ #dailybonjoviyoga.

I find a way to let it spark, inspire, and enrich, your yoga practice.

Just like Jay, I want you to take something that is functional and everyday, like stretching, breathing, doing a yoga video you found on YouTube;
And turn that into something else.

Something that may look small, and unimportant, and makes you wonder:
“What difference does it make?”
If the yoga you do is the same yoga everybody else does, that gets ticked off a list?

Or if you are aware, and awake!
And treat your yoga like a milestone, like being on stage with Bruce Springsteen in The Stone Pony!

What if you identify as an artist, and treat yoga as something creative you do, and maybe even imagine you have almost 1 million followers who want to see your interpretation of it?

It is a game changer.

And the difference is gigantic.

Blame it on the Love of Rock n Roll | Bon Jovi 17 June 1993 Yokohama | Paul McCartney’s Birthday

Photo credit Paul McCartney https://twitter.com/PaulMcCartney/status/1537676569648541696

Today is going to be an easy day for me. Not counting the three hours of work I put in preparing this post, but also rewriting and reposting yesterday’s post; Basically causing more problems than I solved and then had to correct!
But in terms of writing this post, it’s going to be easy peasy, because there is no photo of the concert I would have otherwise written about.

I have a photo of Jon Bon Jovi on stage with Paul McCartney, last night. Or “Beatle Paul” as he calls him, but only off-stage though.

But no material to write about the pre-1997 concerts on this day, 17 June.
Not without risking having to put in extra hours tomorrow, mixing things up again, rewriting paragraphs again, and cursing myself I made the images and stories, such a hotchpotch of media.

But first let’s see what we got!
What [ pre-1997 ] Bon Jovi concerts were played on June 17?

opening for The Scorpions:
17 June 1984 Hampton, Virginia, Hampton Coliseum

Slippery When Wet Tour:
17 June 1987 Salt Lake City, Utah, Salt Palace (first night)

New Jersey Syndicate Tour:
17 June 1987 Hershey, Philadelphia, Hersheypark Stadium
I had originally missed this one; On Wikipedia it is listed on 9 June, but the concert ticket says 17 June.

Keep the Faith/ I ll Sleep When I m Dead Tour:
17 June 1993, Yokohama, Japan, Yokohama Bunka Taiikukan (final show in Japan)

And there is an audio recording:
Bon Jovi – Live in Yokohama 1993 [FULL]
It includes the only documented performance of Blame it on the Love of Rock n Roll, from the Keep the Faith album. It was probably not performed again because Jon was having a hard time with some parts of the song.
source:
concert page

[added on June 18, a 5th June 17 concert, I missed yesterday]
Cross Road/ These Days Tour:
18 June 1995, Werchter, Belgium, Werchter Open Air Park
No recordings online at the moment.

In 2020/2021 the concert was available on YouTube, and I reviewed this concert.
You can watch my video here:
#18 Werchter, Belgium June 17 | 1995 Bon Jovi Concert Series (Stories)
[ end of added concert ]

So four concerts, and only the Yokohama one has a recording. Obviously: That would be the one to write about, and tie it to a yoga lesson, since this blog is about Bon Jovi AND Yoga.

But guess what? No photo! No photos exist of Yokohama 1993. Just like yesterday, when no photos existed to go with the 16 June 1984 recording.
Which then (trust me I m going somewhere with this story) tempted me to use a photo of another pre-1997 concert that did have photos.
So yesterday we had a 16 June 1997 Jon Bon Jovi photo, one of the very rare ones of him having a goatee, to illustrate a 16 June 1984 story about Bon Jovi opening for the Scorpions in Philadelphia.

It was not something I was happy with, and that may have been enough already to change my policies about:
👩🏼‍💻the story
🎸🎶Bon Jovi video on YouTube
AND
📸 photo as given by Google, from that same show

But when this morning I reposted the 16 June blog with the 15 (not 16) June 1996 photo (same goatee, and that photo had featured on this daily blog, the day before); Only to find this out after one hour, and one unwelcome comment later, as if the mismatch had summoned mismatching mutuals;
I knew I was not gonna go down that road ever again.

From now on, story and photo were gonna have to match.

One morning of extra work and one Twitter block later, I knew the only “on this day” 80s or 90s Bon Jovi show I would write about, would be one that had AND video AND photo.
Which for today, 17 June, means;
None.

Which was quite lucky actually!
Because last night Paul McCartney celebrated his birthday with a 3 hour show, Bruce Springsteen came by to sing  “Glory Days,” and they sang “I Wanna Be Your Man.”.
And Jon Bon Jovi came by to sing Happy Birthday with the crowd.
So that is the story I will share today.

And the 2 hour recording of Yokohama is a great soundtrack to your 17 June day!
Bon Jovi – Live in Yokohama 1993 [FULL]
And the only time Blame it on the Love of Rock n Roll was performed live.

And I just found out that a very lovely mutual is celebrating his birthday today! So Paul McCartney’s birthday story is the perfect one for this day!
Not attracting toxicity but appreciated and fun Bon Jovi fans instead.

The Keep The Faith album, the album for the one concert we have a recording of, has songs which are often debated if they should have been on that album.
Or if they should have been dropped in favor of songs that were around too, but never recorded or the recordings were dropped.
The three songs often mentioned, including two by Jon, about not being a good fit for the album, are:
Blame it on the Love of Rock n Roll, Woman in Love (which was never performed) and If I was your Mother.

One of the reasons for this “criticism”, is that in 1991 and 1992, many songs were around that ranged from upbeat and fun, to breathtakingly beautiful, and that never made it to an album.
Or not until the box set 100.000.000 Bon Jovi Fans Can t Be Wrong in 2004.

If you re curious about these unreleased, or late- released, 1991 and 1992 songs, you can check my playlist:
Bon Jovi 1984/85-1995 Deep cuts and cover songs (live)
The videos are from all over YouTube, and sometimes do not have a date. But I put them in chronological order, so you ll have no trouble finding the ones that could have been on Keep the Faith (1992)

In the end, everything always turns out perfectly.
1993’s Blame it on the Love of Rock n Roll, meets Bruce Springsteen’s 2022 Glory Days
The borderline obsessive love from If I was your mother, mirrors the darkness of the fan I encountered.
I dedicate Jon’s Happy Birthday, to the fan who celebrates his birthday today, June 17th.

And what better pairing than last night’s “I Wanna Be Your Man.” with  my personal favorite from the 1992 album:
“Woman in Love”?!

You cannot think, or structure, your way out of life.
You have to let go, and go with the flow.

You have to, rock n roll.
