Mistakes are a good thing | 30 July | Bon Jovi 27 July 1995, Burgettstown (Pittsburgh), Pennsylvania | Coca-Cola Star Lake Amphitheatre

Welcome to this renewed and rebooted daily Bon Jovi blog!
Since yesterday, this is also the complementary blog for  #dailybonjoviyoga on YouTube.

Every day you get:
(1) a story
Ranging from anywhere between
– a 2000 word blogpost, lavishly wrapped under, over and around, all things yoga and Bon Jovi;
– to refreshingly missing!

The blog is always three parts, with the story as the closer, at the bottom of this post.

Today’s post is called Mistakes are a good thing.
Which is the fourth title…. I changed it up over the course of today.

I’m sure I will make a good story out of it, but mostly this title is chosen because it is what I need to hear myself, today.
And maybe that is reason enough:
Mistakes are a good thing, because if we label them anything else, it freezes you, and it keeps you from doing in this life, what you came here to do.
If you do anything else but embrace your mistakes, they have the power to break you.

And next to the story, every post also brings you:
(2) a Bon Jovi concert, a soundtrack for today
Which is then also added to the YouTube playlist
Bon Jovi concerts on this day

+
(3) a yoga practice you can do, based on the day of the week.
Pulled straight from day-by-day Rock Star Yoga/ #dailybonjoviyoga blueprint
And yesterday I ve also picked up yoga for YouTube!!

So today is July 30!
Let’s dive in: What is the yoga for today?
What is the Bon Jovi concert or concerts, on this day?

🧘🏽🤘🏽#dailybonjoviyoga

As of yesterday, there are 3 different options, which firstly in helicopter view are:

option 1.
do yoga on your own, themed day by day

This is the only option where you get a “freestyle” (do yoga on your own) option, which means you can do yoga with Bon Jovi music.
The two other options are guided practices only.
Which would be hard to follow along, if you have Someday I’ll Be Saturday Night blasting through your speakers simultaneously.

option 2.
pick one of the programs

option 3.
New! Do yoga with me on YouTube, or get inspired by my other yoga plans today, if I know I won’t be creating a new video.

Three options to kickstart, reboot or rock, your yoga.
Let’s go!

option I:  themed day by day

Every day of the week, the Rock Star Yoga/ #dailybonjoviyoga is themed differently:

Monday: Find What Feels Good
do yoga with:🥤 Yoga with Adriene channel
or playlist 1: 🍭 Yoga with Adriene – selection
or playlist 2:🌱Yoga with Adriene Yoga for New Beginnings
or do hatha yoga with 🚧Slippery When Wet album🚧 or 🏟️Slippery When Wet tour🌎

Tuesday, showtime! New Jersey Syndicate Tour
do yoga with: 🕉️Ashtanga Yoga and  🏹 Rocket Yoga playlist
or freestyle with 🇺🇸New Jersey album🫐🟦 or 🏟️New Jersey Syndicate tour🌎

Wednesday:  🌵🏜️🏍️Santa Fe Day 🦅🏜️🌵
choose a yin yoga/ relaxation video from the yoga playlist
or do relaxing yoga with 🏜️Blaze of Glory album🏍️
OR (new!) do yoga with the live Dry County and Santa Fe playlist!

Thursday, showtime! Keep the Faith/ I ll Sleep When I m Dead Tour
do yoga with: 🌊Shiva Rea playlist
or buy her 1999 double album 2h practice, Yoga Sanctuary
or freestyle with 🛐 Keep the Faith album✝️ or the 🏟️KTF tour🌎

Friday: 🍻 An Evening With Bon Jovi🎤
do yoga with: 💃🏽 Tara Stiles playlist
or do hatha yoga with a few songs from the Cross Road album or An Evening With Bon Jovi

Saturday: Showtime! Cross Road/ These Days Tour
do yoga with: 🌶️ Meghan Currie Playlist.
or freestyle with
🎸These Days album🚑 or the 🏟️ CR/ TD Tour🌎

Sunday: Vintage Yoga
do yoga with: 📺 Playlist Vintage Yoga Videos + tv
or hatha yoga with 1⃣Bon Jovi- Bon Jovi album💘, 🌋Fahrenheit🔥 or concerts 🎛️1984🎴🏮-🦂🦂🦂-1985🌎

Or, choose the fast lane to enlightenment, with Guns N’ Roses Yoga.
Full story here:
->  Free yourself. And have breakfast with the other guests.
| A Day or a Lifetime, of Guns N’ Roses Yoga

💀🌹🎸  Guns N’Roses Yoga
do yoga with: 🕉️Ashtanga Yoga and  🏹 Rocket Yoga playlist
or freestyle with a 💀🌹🎸 Guns N’ Roses album,
or a concert, for example: 💀🌹🎸 Guns N’ Roses – Paris 06.06.1992
Or my playlist: Guns N’ Roses Groningen 2022 06 23

.

option II: week & month program

Dive in with the above schedule, or pick one of the two programs, which are designed in the same Monday to Sunday rhythm. So for example, every Saturday you’d get a Meghan Currie video:

4 Week Program (15-30 minute videos)
🕉 🎬 yoga playlist:
Rock Your Yoga: 4 Week Program {❤️🤍💙 est. July 4th, 2022}

Monthly playlist, with practices from 15-30 minutes.

Week Program (1 hour videos)
🕉 🎬yoga playlist: 7 Day Yoga Schedule | 1 Hour per day
Ongoing 7 day playlist, with practices of one hour.

Individual videos may be replaced when the original drops out or a better alternative is available, but the lists have a permanent status and you can count on them to stay up.

option III:  Do Yoga With Me
(reboot yoga channels)

Yesterday was my long awaited return to the mat, as I decided to move my yoga from a personal practice (which I wasn’t doing anyway) to in front of the camera.

We all have other things to do during the day, right?
And in my case, I’ve realized I need the connection of creating for YouTube, more than I need introspection and solitude.

Being a writer, I’m already maxing out in the introspection and solitude department.
And don’t we all crave for connection at the end of the day?
This is your open invitation to join me and other Bon Jovi fans, on the mat.

Advanced practitioner/ Teacher Notes { Saturday}

Since it is Saturday, the yoga video I make will be inspired by 🌶️ Meghan Currie.
Click the link to practice directly with a playlist with Meghan Curry videos.

I will be using my teacher’s manual:
In 2017-2018 I created an art project Het Yogaboek van Liefdeseend, that included 10 months worth of teaching schedules (link to my Dutch page with those schedules).
One block of classes was Meghan Currie inspired, and I will use those schedules to make today’s yoga videos.

The concert part!
What concerts were played on July 30?

🗓️🎶🎸Bon Jovi July 30.

Bon Jovi 1995 07 27 Burgettstown photo @jane_jbj on twitter

There are no pre-1997 concerts recording for July 30;
But there is one from the 27th!

YouTube upload by hAnD90:
Bon Jovi | Live at Coca-Cola Star Lake Amphitheatre | Burgettstown 1995

1995 07 27 Bon Jovi played at Burgettstown Star Lake Amphitheater

The recording is on YouTube multiple times, but was always labeled as “Pittsburgh”, not Burgettstown.
Burgettstown is a district in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area.

YouTube channel hAnD90 remastered the video and audio, and writes about this concert:
“I’d actually go as far as saying that the summer/fall of 1995 was the band’s best in their career.
There still was some of that youthful energy and hunger left, but they were really refined and matured in terms of playing and it all slotted into gear. “

Therefor:

Mistakes are a good thing

👩🏼‍💻 the story July 30

Jon correcting his mistake at the Burgettstown/ Pittsburgh concert 1995. Click for video.

In today’s concert, Jon Bon Jovi starts singing the first verse from These Days, twice.
I had not noticed it when I listened to the 2h. Burgettstown recording, but when I started searching for the uploads that were under the banner “Bon Jovi Pittsburgh 1995”, one of the videos that came up was These Days, as a single recording.
And the description box, mentioned the mistake.

The 1995 Bon Jovi concert in Burgettstown, was on YouTube long before hAnD90’s ultimate remastered upload, in 2020.
It was just called differently, and labeled “Pittsburgh”.
After the metropolitan area of Burgettstown, and also the way Jon Bon Jovi addresses the crowd.

Which is not technically a mistake, but it did remind me of the final post of my first 30 day stint on this blog.
It ended July 10, with a giant mistake in the title, where I mixed up Middletown New Jersey with Middletown California.
I m certain it contributed to me dropping out of writing these already time consuming blog posts.

I saw how unrewarding it was: That I was putting in my heart and soul, but that the most time consuming and frustrating factor, the factor that would always bite me in the ass if I tried to short cut writing this blog, was one of geography.

I m pretty sure I dropped out because I was ready to commit to writing about Bon Jovi everyday.
However, what I was not ready to commit to, was to deciphering American towns, boroughs, states, and allocate double locations to their correct state.
That, I was not committed to.

So I dropped out.

And maybe the Pittsburgh/ Burgettstown situation from today’s concert, reminded me that THIS is what I m in for.
That this blog will always entail geographical and historical fact checking, and deciphering. Something that does not necessarily show in the result, but if I FAIL to do it?
And it shows up the way Middletown, New Jersey and Orange County California were mixed up?
If I fail to do it, I will no longer be able to stand the post.
And may drop out.

So I have no choice but to accept that if I want to stay motivated to write this blog, then looking up the location, and trace it back to its origins until I know without a doubt, I have an understanding where it is, and where it is not;
Is part of my work.

But also: That THAT is the benchmark of mastery.

Mastery is NOT  writing a daily blogpost.
Mastery is NOT knowing how to make a remastered Burgettstown recording, which after two days of giving it your all, is suddenly a joy to listen to, when all that came before you were not.
Mastery is how you handle the extra things, that you would never be able to tackle, if you still needed all your mental bandwidth for the work itself.

And that’s when I suddenly understood, why I was so convinced hAnD90 was great at what he does.
Even though I consider myself musically illiterate, and have therefor no technical understanding of the work.
I know it because he researches and dives in the history of the recording, and thinks about the context of it.
That’s how I know he has full mastership over the technical process, because otherwise he would not even bother, and just copy locations and dates.

And now I can see why making mistakes and being upset by that is ALWAYS a good thing.
Because it reveals ambition.

It reveals you want more of yourself in that area, and that in itself is a good thing.
You may not get it for free, in fact it would be a real surprise if you did!, but your pain is more in not admitting to yourself, that you are ambitious in this area.
That despite your flaws, the unfamiliarity or your history, you STILL want to do better in that area of your life.
Maybe even achieve mastership!
Admitting that,
takes balls.

And that is why making a mistake, and being annoyed by it, is always good.
Because it reveals there is a part of you, that understands you can do better. And wants to, do better.

It is the part of you, that flat out refuses to settle for mediocre and average.

And that part, is something to cherish.
Because it will turn you into a master, one day.

Which means we will go with yesterday’s show, which we did not cover:

Torch Bearing and Tent Sharing

👩🏼‍💻 the story July 8

.
Two days ago I wrote a piece about the Dutch preference for organizing festivals, over one-band concerts.
I still think this is largely an unconscious bias that goes something like this:
Solo artist = one artist = concert alone
Band = multiple artists = festival

However, today’s soundtrack, the Bon Jovi festival recording, proves that being programmed at a festival, can result in extra powerful performances!
At the 1995 Bon Jovi Cross Road tour, there was a stint where they played three different countries in three days:
July 6, 1995, Rotterdam The Netherlands
July 7, 1995, Odense, Denmark, festival
snippet press conference Denmark, credit Jane
July 8, 1995, Turku, Finland (no recording)
snippet press moment Finland, credit Jane
[ After Finland there are 13 days off, American leg starts July 21 1995 ]

It was as if despite the grueling schedule, the festival setting, and consequently having to cut the setlist short by 45 minutes or so, resulted in an extra shot of adrenaline and inspiration!
In my opinion, the Denmark performance definitely belongs to the strongest of the tour.

The show opens with a powerful statement of Jon carrying a torch during “Rockin’ In The Free World”;
Jon Bon Jovi flirts with the audience mid-Lay Your Hands On Me:
“With some of these girls I see out here, I wouldn’t mind spending a couple of nights here in the tent myself.

There is flirting and storytelling in an exceptionally energetic Bad Medicine, with him turning to “Gloria” (the song is integrated into Bad Medicine) because he had been away from New Jersey for too long.
And Gloria understanding that blackmail is the fastest way to a man’s heart!

And the encore rocks!

There is an enigmatic version of I Believe, with Jon Bon Jovi on electric guitar and with adlibs (extra words) and raspy voice in the outro, of Bruce Springsteen like proportions!
There is minutes of speech/ adlibs in the slow pause in Someday I ll Be Saturday  Night!

You can usually find timestamps to different songs (f.e. to Bad Medicine) in every description box on YouTube:
Bon Jovi – Live in Odense, Denmark 1995 [FULL]

I’m not eating my words on the blog about concerts versus festivals,
but I will add, that if it had not been for Bon Jovi pulling out all the stops, for this Danish festival;
We would have been one great concert short!

This blog is almost one month old, and from every day I sat down to write, today has been the most problematic one.
Because I had not even properly started, or I saw the announcement that Dutch artist Raven van Dorst would be a guest in a legendary Dutch summer series, on television.
The show is called “Zomergasten” and it has been around since 1988.

Zomergasten is like the royalty of Dutch television.

Every episode, one guest can create their ideal television night, in a live 4-hour show.
There is a rudimentary English version of the wiki page of this show, where only the most remarkable Dutch scientists, artists and people from the media are invited.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zomergasten
Being invited to Zomergasten is a form of being knighted.

Raven van Dorst (they/them) from the band Dool, and Dutch artist/ tv program creator.

About two months ago, I got to know Raven van Dorst, because one episode of their current program (where they have a farm, and every week two famous Dutch people come to help) was heavily promoted by other Dutch media, because it had two interesting guests in it.
So I watched the show for the first time, because one of those guests indeed interested me;
Only to find out very quickly, that no one is very interesting, standing next to Raven!

Raven van Dorst is simply so badass, so authentic, so funny and (my personal favorite) so openly sexual, that no matter how much media training you had, no matter how much you usually get paid to show up on camera;
You will lose standing next to them.
No one outshines Raven.

Raven van Dorst has been a performer since approximately 2000;
And although their bands and identities have been subject to change, the music was always rock, punk rock and doom metal, and they performed at festivals and gave concerts all over Europe.
Don’t let ten years of being in television fool you;
Raven van Dorst is first and foremost a band leader and a seasoned rock musician.

I immersed into their content, watched all seasons of their farming show, and then discovered ten years plus, worth of material on YouTube.
Because Raven had been active as a content creator for tv, for almost ten years, and even longer as a recording artist.

I remember having ten days or something, where my whole world seemed to revolve around watching their content and around creating a playlist I “knew” only I would listen to.
Ten days, which I considered something between an artist’s sabbatical and collateral damage of being a creative.
Productivity wise I gave myself a zero for that time period, but at the same time I knew that when you are a creative, you have to settle for not being productive in the traditional sense.

That when the muse takes over, you bow.
You honor that.
As Freddie Mercury says in the movie Bohemian Rhapsody:
“I m a performer darling, not a Swiss train conductor.”

So although I m still not at ease, with how creative energy flows;
I respected it.
My ten days or so, immersing myself in Raven van Dorst’s work, and creating the playlist, was just one of the many proof I had, that creativity is not a linear process.

And now we get to why today was the most difficult day for me, writing this Daily Bon Jovi Yoga blog;
Because I HAVE been trying to contain this.
To streamline it, in a way that some day in the hopefully, not too far away future, I can:
-write this blog in under an hour AM
-set up the draft post of the new day (research concerts on-this-day; select soundtrack concert, get direct yoga links and upload photos to the yoga videos, change all the dates) every night, in 30 minutes;
So that I can create these posts in 90 minutes and get going with my other work.

But it’s not working.

These post are still more often than not 4-8 hours long, because the creative trail takes me all over the place.

When I heard this news about Raven van Dorst, being “knighted” to Zomergast (summer guest), I looked up the playlist I had created all those weeks ago, and started structuring it in a way that it could be made public.
And I wrote an introduction in English, to Raven van Dorst, in the description box. Wrestling with they/them, and how to use verbs in a non-binary way.

For those who want to know:
In English you use plural:
Raven van Dorst is, but they are.
In Dutch you use singular:
Raven van Dorst is, and hun is.

I also included a paragraph in the description box about why they are non-binary, and why they are an activist.
Realizing that I could still have chosen wrong terms or words.
I was simultaneously working on not one, but three pieces of content:
-this blogpost
-the YouTube playlist and the description box
and
-a Dutch blogpost (which will have to wait, or be dropped)
And I m now almost at 7 hours of work, and only the playlist is done.

playlist: Raven van Dorst, Dutch artist they/them

In the first song at the show in Denmark, Jon Bon Jovi is carrying a torch.
According to the concert page, he puts it down after nearly burning his arm, but it does make a spectacular visual.
Jon Bon Jovi holding the torch for freedom.

The same freedom, Raven van Dorst advocates.

At the Dutch program page, announcing Raven van Dorst attending Zomergasten this year, they announce it will be an evening in praise of the rebel.
A celebration of being different.

And I wonder: “Will they….? Even there?”

Will Raven van Dorst bring their unapologetic sexuality, “straight” into their unofficial Dutch knighting, live on national tv?

Will they enter wearing sunglasses carrying a torch, climb the table like a high rise, and pose like the statue of liberty, dramatically staring into the lens?
Will they extinguish the torch in the crystal carafe of water,
grab an electric guitar for an energetic performance, blowing all the fuses?
Throw in lengthy and very unscripted adlibs that will make us all blush and give guests for the next 34 years of the show something to live up to?

Or, do the rock stars of this world, save THAT for festivals?

Rock Star (meaning YOU!) “sexual capital” | 7 July | Bon Jovi 7 July 1996, Milton Keynes, England, National Bowl (second night)

Welcome to another day on this new daily blog! Every day you get:
(1) a story
Ranging from anywhere between
– a 2000 word blogpost, lavishly wrapped under, over and around, all things yoga and Bon Jovi;
– to refreshingly missing!

Ironically, I thought No Way, I m going to pull off writing a story today!
Not the writing itself, because I write quicker than I read:
But the research.

The past couple of days the posts on this blog cost me a fair amount of research time. I constantly had to Google things, which was very time consuming.
Time I do not have today.

So I thought: “Well, let’s make this one without a story then.”
Until I realized it was just the research, I couldn’t do today. So I can write about things I can just pull off the mental shelf;
Rock Star sexual capital, is such a topic!

As is totally punned and the appropriate location today, you can find the  story about sexual capital, below, at the bottom half of this post. 😎

But before we get there!
You get:
(2) a Bon Jovi concert, a soundtrack for today
Also added to the on-this-day playlist, with all the concerts from this blog:

The concert part!
What concerts were played on July 7?

🗓️🎶🎸Bon Jovi July 7.

1996 07 06 First night in Milton Keynes

There are two pre-1997 concerts recording for July 7;

July 7:

Cross Road/ These Days Tour:
7 July 1995, Odense, Denmark, Midtfyns Festival

YouTube upload:
Bon Jovi – Live in Odense, Denmark 1995 [FULL]

Cross Road/ These Days Tour:
7 July 1996, Milton Keynes, England, National Bowl (second night)
YouTube upload:
Bon Jovi – Milton Keynes National Bowl 07.07.1996 (2nd show – nearly full audio)

The first Milton Keynes night, on 6 July, did not have a YouTube upload, but  the setlist is known.

And the the concert page from the second night , gives us a clue they made some adjustments, based on the experiences the night before:

“Rockin’ In The Free World opens the show!

Wild In The Steets is placed early, as is Hey God. Heavy wind had caused massive sound fluctuations over both nights which lead to the band having had problems in working the audience the previous show. This is probably why they went for a full-blown rockin’ start this time around.

Lie To Me Is back and gets favored over Diamond Ring / Bed Of Roses.

Bed Of Roses had initially been dropped and the band didn’t plan on doing it, but changed it on the spot due to multiple requests and had it open their final encore.”

Therefor:

7 JuLY 1996, Milton Keynes, England🇬🇧
Bon Jovi – Milton Keynes National Bowl 07.07.1996 (2nd show – nearly full audio)

is the soundtrack for today

.
Both performances are added to the playlist
“Bon Jovi concerts on this day” (on July 7)

And the show from 1995 Odense, Denmark will stay on stand-by for when we don’t have an on-this-day recording.

Rock Star (meaning YOU!) “sexual capital”

👩🏼‍💻 the story July 7

.
There are definitely times when I wish I had taken the building of my business (at that time, my yoga business) as seriously as creating the sex/dating/love life I wanted.
And present tense, meaning that wish is not just a thing of the past;
It still is.
That I would be as certain now, in my career as a Rock Star Writer and Yoga Teacher, as I am in my sex/dating/love life.
Or even, that I had the same decisiveness of setting out on a quest to figure it out!
Just like I had, with regard to figuring out my dating and sex life, fifteen years ago.

In my 30s, I rebooted my love and dating life. I knew what I wanted, and I knew the most important thing was to stick to my guns.
To not be swayed, just because what I wanted was not the norm.

Because in hindsight- that was the sad thing, about how I had turned up off-path, with my love life-
In hindsight I had already known everything that was true for me, when I was 15, 16 years old.
Just that I had let the fears and beliefs of others, get the better of me, and that had made me end up in relationships where those fears (that were not even my own) were bypassed.
Great relationships with amazing men, for sure!

But that had never been what I wanted:
I wanted adventures with the wicked!
With the rock stars, of this earth.

I didn’t know all that when I went on my quest, to find the right path.
In fact, I had internalized the views that were not my own and thought that after I had had my fun with new men, with whom I had been very much in love, and had enjoyed our glorious ten-times-a-day phase and then sadly drifted apart (sadly, but not really sadly of course);

That after those perhaps a bit drama-filled years where I got my heart broken all the time, I would come back to the same long-term relationships with the same amazing men.

Except;
I didn’t.
And I never will.
I ll take one day of adventure with a man who has cracked my heart open like a walnut, and who leaves me in a sea of tears;
Over a lifetime of bliss, with an amazing man.

Because after I have recovered from that blow to my emotional system?
I do feel strong.
I do feel on top of the world.
It took me a while, but now I understand that I thrive on that challenge, to get back on my feet.
To learn how to CARRY myself, to learn how to SURVIVE (emotionally).
To learn how to use that pain of being sidelined, and losing him, at a stage when I was not expecting it, and no longer prepared to have “him do that to me”, and yet?
It has become my favorite way to grow.

I d rather grow like that, than meditate for ten days, or even than to meditate at all!
I ve grown fond of it, that is the point I want to bring across, before I continue. So you understand that even without the wealth I discovered I had accumulated, you understand that I would not go back.
That I love being in it, at least as much as what I get out of it.

Which is “sexual capital”.

book from 2010, that coined the term erotic capital. The term sexual capital was already used, before that.

Sexual or erotic capital is a term coined in 2010, although it was around before that.
I use that word here, so that you know that if you like more background information, you know what to look for.
Because the terms sexual capital and erotic capital, have been the closest thing I have found, that describe the wealth I found.
But there is one major difference!

Hence the quotation marks in the title:
“sexual capital”

Where sexual capital is the word to describe how to leverage your sexual attractiveness to gain things in the real world
(changing it for other forms of economic capital);

Sexual capital ->quotation marks<- means;
Wealth, health, sexual energy that you feel YOURSELF.

To feel creative, sexual energy flowing through you, nourish you and feed you, in a way that would make you a millionaire if I could bottle that up.

Over 15 years after I set out on my quest, I understand very well, WHY I would never go back to those fun, healthy relationships with amazing men, and prefer one night with the wicked;
Because the latter gives me a ton of this sexual energy, and the years with the great relationships with amazing men, didn’t give me that.
They did not deliver the one thing I craved, which was that feeling of aliveness!

And I think it is this feeling of aliveness, of freedom, of sexual adventure, that a true rock star (true as in: making music and being on stage) conveys.
And that you and I feel, when we’re standing in the crowd, and feel that rush of energy.

Without them knowing who we are, and without us being in some kind of sexual affair, we have an energetic affair with the rock star.
We have a few hours together that we will absolutely never forget, and that will change who we are.

My biggest lesson to you, and one I do not have to research, is;
That is the secret of energy, that is the secret of life.

To learn to receive high amounts of energy, and process it, integrate it, make it your own.
And learn to begin to transmute that energy, just ever so slightly before they move away.
Learn how to start integrating that energy, that you were exposed to in such high doses-
either at the concert or with someone in your life or bed.

To learn to survive the parting, and to then thrive, because you now possess that energy yourself.

That is how you gain Rock Star’s sexual capital.
Inadvertently, because you weren’t even trying.

All you knew was that it rocked your world.

First guesses: Why The Netherlands refused the world’s biggest bands her largest venues (for a long time) | 6 July | Bon Jovi 6 July 1995, Rotterdam, The Netherlands, Stadion Feijenoord “de Kuip”

Although band concerts, seemed to have been hosted too small in The Netherlands, until latest of 80s/early 90s;
They were welcome at one of Holland’s many festivals and multiple-bill concerts. Stamping Ground (1970) was the first and probably the most legendary one.

What concerts were played on July 6?

🗓️🎶🎸Bon Jovi July 6.

Rotterdam 1995, opening de show with Steven Van Zandt 📸Rob Verhorst

There are two pre-1997 concerts recording for July 6;
And I m appointing the one closest to home, as the soundtrack of the day!

July 6:

New Jersey Syndicate Tour:
6 July 1989, Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, Niagara Falls Civic Center

YouTube upload:
Bon Jovi | Live at Stadion Feijenoord | Rotterdam 1995
A remastered recording by hAnD90.
Tech specifics in description box of the video.

About this show, by hAnD90;

“Just like in 1993, the band was to face an excellent crowd upon their visit to Rotterdam and played a nice long setlists with a few twists and turns in there. The excitement and energy were great that night.”

Therefor:

6 JuLY 1995, Rotterdam, The Netherlands🇳🇱

First guesses: Why The Netherlands refused the world’s biggest bands her largest venues (for a long time)

👩🏼‍💻 the story July 6

.

Stadion Feijenoord in Rotterdam (“De Kuip”) was the first stadium to host concerts. 📸 Rob Verhorst

It was one of those things, right under your nose, that you somehow manage to miss.
Even though the signs had been there all along.

Because why did Bon Jovi play the relatively small indoor venue Ahoy TWICE on their New Jersey Syndicate Tour, in 1988 and 1989;
When they would have sold even a 100.000 tickets in a heartbeat?
And on a bad day.

Why had I wondered, oh so very often, why me and my boyfriend visited an insane amount of hard rock festivals in the early 90s;
But hardly, any concerts by one band?

Why had the Rolling Stones played at The Netherlands most luxurious beach hotel, Kurhaus Scheveningen, in 1964?
Only to have it spin out of control in madness and mayhem by fans, and a lot of material damage.
Which should have come as a surprise, to absolutely no one.

And even!
Even;
Why did Bon Jovi’s 1995 concert in Nijmegen, fall flat on its face, after it being hastily relabeled, yet not quite fully (let alone effectively) into a  four-bill “festival”.
Whatever that means.
Suffice to say it didn’t work, and although Nijmegen 1995 does not have a recording, sources seem to agree at least for Bon Jovi, it had not worked and they had been unable to make that night’s concert “work”.
Which is saying something, because they’d been able to make concerts where they had increasingly larger objects being thrown at them, work, when in 1984 they opened for the hostile crowds of ZZ Top and Scorpions.

But somehow the “Dutch quadruple bill” trick at the Goffertpark, had caught them off-guard, and off-key.

From hosting the first concert The Rolling Stones would play outside of the United Kingdom, at the Kurhaus in 1964, which also counts as The Netherland’s first go at organizing a band concert;
To Holland’s uncontrollable urge to squeeze bands together on one bill;
Something seems rotten, in the kingdom of the Netherlands.

And the preference can be seen to this day.
It started with the open air concert in Kralingen (Stamping Ground, 1970) but in 2022 there are still way more festivals, with tens of thousands of people, than there are open air concert locations that do one-band or one-artist concerts.

Let’s assume, that the latter habit, or preference, is a global one. A commercial one. That over the whole world, concert organizers rather go for packaging up a certain TYPE of music;
Thinking it will sell more tickets because it will attract a broader audience, than that they feel called to book for, basically the niche group of, one fanbase.

So let’s assume that part of the Dutch preference, to have at least a dozen festivals/ festival locations, but only a handful of concert locations that pass the 50.000 attendees mark?
Let’s for now, let that rest, and write it off as a global thing. Book it under capitalism, whatever.
Park it.

Let’s also, just like in statistics when you take out the numbers that vary too much from the whole, before you make an estimate;
Let’s not count that very first Rolling Stones concert.
It’s too long ago, and no one had hosted a Rolling Stones concert outside the UK, so good for the Netherlands that they made that mark in Rock n Roll history!

And now we get into how I, finally, begin to understand that there is a whole part of Dutch history missing.
And the part is;
For the longest of times, there were no real concerts in the Netherlands.

This was the part I opened with; the thing that had been under my very nose.
And it was brought to my attention by my mother.
Because I asked her how she and my father had known how important it had been for me to go to Bon Jovi?
They had not been, at first glance, the types of parents to facilitate events like concerts at the other side of the country (in the Netherlands that is a 2.5 hour drive), on a school night.
Our family revolved around what my father wanted, then what my mother wanted, and for the children it revolved around what they thought we needed.
Not what we knew we wanted.

Our wants were not discouraged, but there was an unspoken rule that the wants were not their department. Those were our own to figure out, and as long as it didn’t interfere with school, we could do it.
But “going to” Bon Jovi on a school night (the quotation marks stand for not having a clue how to get there without them driving me!) did, interfere with school!

So then how did they, and pretty unanimously it seemed, decide it was important enough to drive me and two friends there?
When none of their policies would have led to this outcome?

And that was when I offered;
“Was it perhaps because dad would have wanted to go, in the 60s?”
And my mother replied:
“Oh no! We didn’t have concerts in the 60s!”
And that’s how this whole topic of wanting to know the history of Dutch concerts, came about!

And when I suddenly understood, why the Rolling Stones had been at Kurhaus. Strangely enough, up until that moment, I had never wondered why they had played at such an odd location.
When in hindsight, it makes total sense, because it was the first concert ever booked here.

Broad strokes, the 50s and 60s, can be divided into the mainland of Europe, which was still recovering from the war.
And Japan, United States and England, which had not been occupied.
So for the first twenty years or so, you can pretty much see why Europe was so far behind, in having a music industry.

Rock n Roll was brought to The Netherlands by the Indonesian community.
From Wikipedia on Indorock:

“Indorock is a musical genre that originated in the 1950s in the Netherlands. It is a fusion of Indonesian and Western music, with roots in Kroncong (traditional Portuguese-Indonesian fusion music). The genre was invented by Indo repatriates in the Netherlands after Indonesian independence on August 17, 1945, and became popular especially in Germany. Indorock is one of the earliest forms of “Eurorock”.[1] Its influence on Dutch popular music was immense.”

This illustrates that The Netherlands were quite cutting edge when it came to music, just not in organizing concerts.
In conversation with someone from Germany, my impression was they had big venues for Europe’s most popular acts, over a decade sooner, than the Netherlands.

And in 1978, Feyenoord Stadion in Rotterdam, opened its doors for world famous pop artists, but only the absolute biggest names, were allowed to play there;
When rock bands were to play smaller venues or festival or multiple bill concerts, when my impression was, they had far outgrown that.
Bon Jovi late 80s could have easily, sold out Feyenoord Stadion.

In the 90s, it was as if Dutch concert organizer Mojo, did a brave attempt to SATISFY, Dutch desire to see the Rolling Stones live!

1990: 3x Stadion Feijenoord, Rotterdam
1995: 2x Stadion Feijenoord, Rotterdam, Megaland, Landgraaf (festival),  2x Goffertpark, Nijmegen, 2x Paradiso, Amsterdam
1998: Malieveld, Den Haag + 5x Amsterdam ArenA
1999: Megaland, Landgraaf (festival)+ Stadspark, Groningen

But ten years of sold out concerts in The Netherland’s biggest venues later;
And they could still get no satisfaction!

So do I have guesses, about what happened in The Netherlands?
Hardly.

What I know is that every time I visit a concert, I am so happy with Mojo, our organizer. They seem to get better at tweaking their concerts, everytime a little more.
The chair throwing of the Kurhaus, is definitely a thing of the ancient past!

The organization, the execution, of Dutch concerts is phenomenal.
For example: The Golden Circle is never overbooked, something I ve definitely seen happening on video footage from shows abroad.
Mojo Concerts deserves a 10 out of 10, for their work!

Yesterday they signed a contract here in Nijmegen, making Goffertpark one of their only handful 50.000 attendees, locations. For their biggest shows.
And Nijmegen tends to get all the rock concerts, so I m absolutely delighted with this deal!

But do I think money is being left on the table?
And that it’s the bands, that have suffered the most?
I do.
Suffered from whatever it is, that seemed to have gotten off on the wrong foot.

Do I know why?
Probably not.

But I do know, it could be changed.
In a heartbeat.
On a bad day.

The concert part!
What concerts were played on July 5?

🗓️🎶🎸Bon Jovi July 5.

Jon before concert RDS Arena. Click photo for original by @jane_jbj on twitter

There is no pre-1997 concert recording for July 5;
So I m appointing a recording that has not been a soundtrack of the day yet:
2 July 1995:

Cross Road/ These Days Tour
2 July 1995, Dublin, Ireland, RDS Arena
YouTube upload:

Bon Jovi | Live at RDS Arena | Dublin 1995
A remastered recording by hAnD90.
Tech specifics in description box of the video.

Dublin was the final concert from the European tour, and Jane shared two clippings from two interviews Jon gave before the show:
1.news item + Jon on having a good time in Dublin
2.Jon on the influence of Irish musician Phil Lynnott, on their work

The 1995 Dublin show was a fantastic show!
And an absolute worthy closer for the European leg of the tour.

From the description box, by hAnD90:

“The band and the crowd are in a great mood as it’s usually the case in Dublin.
Jon does some nice ad-libs over the outro of Runaway and even considers moving to Ireland due to him being so impressed by the enthusiastic crowd.
Just like in Jakarta, the band delivers a mesmerizing rendition of Never Say Goodbye with them starting out slow and the band bursting in by the time the solo comes around and Richie taking the song home!”

Therefor:

2 JuLY 1995, Dublin, Ireland🇮🇪
Bon Jovi | Live at RDS Arena | Dublin 1995

is the soundtrack for today

.
The performance was already added to the playlist
“Bon Jovi concerts on this day” (on July 2)
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLiGoDE3C06ScAo9UN4GyhtQWYfl3d6jMT

.

The show may not, go on.

👩🏼‍💻 the story July 5

“As you can tell, I am having a few issues, these shows are really important to us, I slept here last night.
So I’ll be switching the songs around vocally, I hope you don’t mind. I’d really like to keep going.”

Axl Rose, Tottenham (second night), 2 July 2022

Before Guns N Roses came to the Netherlands, on June 23;
I had about 15 months between buying the ticket and the show, to worry about all that could go wrong.
Groningen, The Netherlands was one of the extra concerts, and had not been included in the original 2020 European tour.
So I had a new ticket, for a new show, and not a rescheduled one.

But would there even be a show?
Or w
ould the pandemic still be keeping bands from touring in 2022?
On February 24, 2022, a day before the Dutch Covid measures were lifted, the war started in Ukraine.
Hardly anybody in The Netherlands was worrying about Covid anymore.

The first nights I heard what I can only identify as military aircrafts, passing over Nijmegen.
And there seemed to be an unusual amount of activity in the woodlands between The Netherlands and Germany; a side of the city that is normally dead quiet.

For the first month of the war, I thought it highly unlikely, that European airspace would stay open, for a band to tour the continent.
If aside from Ukraine, a few more countries would be at war or if their airspace was no longer open, European tours would be cancelled.
I estimated 85-95% of shows would need to go on as planned, for a tour to remain profitable.

Luckily, for obviously more and better reasons than for us enjoying concerts, the war did not spread further over Europe, and all bands including Guns N Roses, started touring Europe.
As planned.

Last night Rammstein gave a show at Goffertpark in Nijmegen, and from outside it sounded great and the show was absolutely spectacular!!
And their second show is scheduled for tonight.
With the Guns N Roses concert in Groningen, having been the best day of my entire life;
And the Red Hot Chili Peppers also having visited Nijmegen, last month!
It is easy to think that things are back to normal.

But far from it.

Last night, Guns N Roses cancelled their Glasgow concert for tonight, and I found out this morning, that the Red Hot Chili Peppers too, had cancelled their Glasgow concert for July 1st.
Both due to medical reasons.

And just last month, the Rolling Stones had to cancel both
Switzerland and The Netherlands, although the last one could be swiftly rescheduled to July 7.
And the Red Hot Chili Peppers too, are back, they only missed one show.

But it shows that it is indeed a small miracle, to have these bands touring the world. And it’s probably something we have been taking for granted.

Covid brought us a realization that global circumstances can interfere with touring schedules. And keep us from enjoying concerts and festivals.
But these first summer months where everything is up and running again, also show us something else;
The human factor.

You can’t compare cancelled 80s and 90s concerts with today’s:
Covid legislation still makes it likely to have shows cancelled when they test positive, when in the 80s and 90s, far worse conditions would be covered up with strong medical interventions.
The show had to go on, and it did, in those decades.
So a band cancelling for medical reasons in 2022, can mean anything.

But there is another reason why cancellations may come more easily, aside from positive Covid testing:
The vulnerability of these artists.

They’re older now, they have to take better care of their health. They re way healthier than back in the day!
But also more professional, less destructive, and wiser, when it comes to health.
More powerful too I reckon; They make the decisions, not managers.

But there is another vulnerability, because contrary to the 20th century, everything is being recorded.
Everything is registered.
If you go up on stage, you know that whatever it is you do up there, you will have people watching it for years to come.

Guns N Roses final two shows, in Tottenham, were both cut short and Axl informed the crowd of his struggles.
He sung the songs differently, but now Glasgow is cancelled.

Jon Bon Jovi too, is having severe struggles with his voice.
Bon Jovi had a short tour in April, but it is unclear what the future holds, and if Bon Jovi will ever tour again.

So I think the old Show Must Go On adage, does hold a different meaning now.
Perhaps even;
No meaning.

That we’ll see bands cancelling, when they can’t risk damaging their voice even more;
Can’t risk not taking the time to recover properly.
Can’t risk, having their reputation damaged by the many recordings that will be available after their show.

And that if we do see them, on stage, and in particular if we see them there struggling;
Then let’s be grateful, that they dare to go out there and meet us.
Because it’s a vulnerable position these days.

Covid may have dropped to the background for now,
and the war may be contained in the east;
But the years of pattern interrupt, and the decades of aging, and all the political and pandemic ebs and flows;
They have shown us that the show no longer, automatically, goes on.

And perhaps that, in itself, is a good thing.

(2) Bon Jovi concert, a soundtrack for today

There is ONE, pre-1997 concert recording of JULY 3:

Cross Road/ These Days Tour
3 July 1996, Paris, France, Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy
YouTube upload, audio AND video!
Bon Jovi | Legendary Concert at Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy | Paris 1996

3 July 1996 Paris

from the description box:
The concert went off the beaten pattern in 1996 with it being the only indoor show of the European leg, no marching band being utilized and the “B structure” of the setlist coming into play (you can find more information about that in the These Days tour section of our website).

As usual with the band’s shows in Paris, they never could go for the really big places, but the audience they packed were always great!

The renditions of the songs have so much to be discovered – from a rap-like part in the break of Hey God to Jon singing an improvised melody over the outro of Saturday Night to spine-chilling renditions of songs like Letting You Go or Something To Believe In – there’s a lot in this one!”

Making Paris 1996, a worthy choice, that will probably keep you engaged for a whole month!

New: Day-to-day Playlists

I created two Rock Star Yoga/ #dailybonjovityoga playlists:

One ongoing 7 day one with practices from one hour.
🕉 🎬 yoga playlist: 7 Day Yoga Schedule | 1 Hour per day
Friday = video 5 = a 50 minute practice from Tara Stiles.

And one with short practices for 4 weeks of Rock Star Yoga/ #dailybonjoviyoga:
🕉 🎬 yoga playlist: Rock Your Yoga: 4 Week Yoga Schedule {start on a Monday}
Since today is a Friday, the 28 day playlist, would land you on video 5, the first Tara Stiles one.

So today is July 1!
Let’s dive in: What is the yoga for today?
What is the Bon Jovi concert or concerts, on this day?

🤘🏾🧘🏾Yoga 1 July

.

One of Tara’s first yoga dvds, 2010. Dvds currently unavailable in Europe, but she has her own online studio, and as one of the few teachers, she kept all her old videos available on YouTube.

1 July 2022, is a Friday, which means:
Friday: 🍻 An Evening With Bon Jovi🎤
Yoga wise it means it’s “Tara Stiles Day”.

Officially named: “An Evening With Bon Jovi” after Bon Jovi’s 1992 intimate gig for MTV, it is now time to unwind with friends.
And practice with friendly and easy going Tara Stiles.

Having been online since 2006, originally with yoga videos for the model agency she was under contract with, Tara Stiles one of the first YouTube yoga teachers.
She is an author, teacher, and the founder of Strala Yoga.

The Tara Stiles playlist on my channel is one of the longest ones, and contains many under 10 minute practices.
Making it a day of ease and flow.

🍻 An Evening With Bon Jovi🎤
option 1: 🤘🏾🧘🏾 Guided yoga practice
:
do yoga with: 💃🏽 Tara Stiles playlist

or 🍻 An Evening With Bon Jovi🎤
option 2: 🤘🏾🧘🏾 Practice yoga on your own:
do hatha yoga with a few songs from the Cross Road album
or An Evening With Bon Jovi

—🤘🏾🧘🏾 🎶🎸 that was your practice for today 🤘🏾🧘🏾 🎶🎸—

The concert part!
What concerts were played on July 1?

🗓️🎶🎸Bon Jovi July 1

.
There are no pre-1997 concert recording of this day, so we are going to choose one from June, we didn’t have as a soundtrack yet:

It is a recording is the 1996 victory lap of the These Days Tour, when Bon Jovi gave an outstanding series of concerts in Europe:

Cross Road/ These Days Tour
29 June 1996, Cologne, Germany, Müngersdorfer Stadion  (second night)
YouTube upload:
Bon Jovi | Legendary 2nd Night at Müngersdorfer Stadion | Cologne 1996

29 June 1996, Cologne, Germany🇩🇪
is the soundtrack for today

The title of the YouTube upload has the adjective “legendary”;
Being the second night in Cologne, Jon invites the crowd to do even better than the one they had yesterday;
And apparently they succeeded!

The band was on fire, the concert was really long, and there was a remarkable moment:
from the concert page:
“During his improvisations in the middle of Someday I’ll Be A Saturday Night, Jon sang a few lines from Destination Anywhere. Indeed his solo song that wasn’t to be released until a year later. This gives an indication of when the track actually might’ve been written.”

Cologne, second night 1996 was already added to the playlist on June 29,
“Bon Jovi concerts on this day”

 For my photos I rely on Jane, from Twitter, she does an amazing job sharing accurately dated on-this-days Bon Jovi content on Twitter.

.

The Morning After

👩🏼‍💻 the story July 1

There is a press conference from the band Bon Jovi, on the day of their first concert in Cologne, on 28 June.
Again, credit to Jane for finding that, because even after she had shared the picture, I could not find the video material from the band giving interviews.

However, what I did find was an interview Jon gave on the 30th of June, probably in Frankfurt before the concert there, that I would qualify as:
The morning after.

Jon Bon Jovi Interview (30.06.1996)

Where the band had still looked fresh on the pictures of 28th of June;
After rocking Cologne for two nights, and in anticipation to their 3rd night playing in a row, now in Frankfurt, Jon was left to face the press alone.

The interview focuses on his movie work, probably the German release of Moonlight and Valentino, and the female interviewer doesn’t downplay her own or any other German female’s interest in him, which definitely pays off in getting Jon’s absolute best.
He takes off his sunglasses for her, they discuss chess hair, romance, there’s plenty of fun and laughter.
Even though he obviously must have been exhausted.

Which made me realize what the difference is between having the “it” factor, and being a world star, and not being that;
It’s how you are the morning after.

That success is as much about, if not more, how well you do in far from ideal circumstances;
Than about how well you do on stage, or on set.
That it’s when you sit with an interviewer 48 hours after you were still fresh and backed by your band, but by now two nights of peak performances later and gearing up for the next- on your own when the rest of the band is having at least the daytime to recover;
And instead you are giving personal interviews.

It’s about how well you do then.

It’s just like sex, where the key to having a spectacularly good sex life as a single;
It is not as much, or not ONLY, about how well you’re able to set it up, and how well you are able to perform;
But how you are doing the day after.

Can you let go of what was the night before, and meet the next person, taking your sunglasses off?

Because a true rock star can.

Today

So today is June 30!
Let’s dive in: What is the yoga for today?
What is the Bon Jovi concert or concerts, on this day?

🤘🏾🧘🏾Yoga 30 June

.

Made in 1999, this was one of the first yoga cds, and the best one ever made i.m.o. The original box with booklet and poster; It’s an education.

30 June 2022, is a Thursday, which means:
Thursday, showtime! Keep the Faith/ I ll Sleep When I m Dead Tour
do yoga with: 🌊Shiva Rea playlist
or buy her 1999 double album 2h practice, Yoga Sanctuary
or freestyle with 🛐 Keep the Faith album✝️ or the 🏟️KTF tour🌎

I learned about Shiva Rea’s work through my vinyasa power yoga teacher training;
Our trainer was from California too, and she introduced Shiva Rea to these early 20th century classes of students, who would become Holland’s first vinyasa power yoga teachers.
I was one of them, and having been introduced to Shiva’s work, at such an early stage, is one of the many things I am grateful for.

I credit Shiva’s 1999 double cd Yoga Sanctuary for the quality of my teachings.
The way she used her voice, her pacing, choice of words;
Even her Californian accent became mine when I taught.
And to this day, one of my bigger goals is to have her album Yoga Sanctuary play a major role in my personal practice.
There were years I did the 2 cds from Yoga Sanctuary on December 31;
As a way to close the old year and start the new.

Shiva’s work has a natural grace as well as strength. And it breathes and feels like the Californian shore.

If you choose a guided practice, then Thursday is Shiva’s Day, in Rock Star Yoga/ #DailyBonJoviYoga.
And if you practice on your own, you can choose Bon Jovi’s Keep the Faith album (1992) as your soundtrack, or a show from the Keep the Faith tour, for example:
17 June 1993, Yokahama

You can find many Daily Energy videos in the 🌊Shiva Rea playlist

Thursday is one of the three days marked “Showtime!”
Meaning that stronger and longer practices, are invited.

Just like a tour schedule, the Rock Star Yoga/ #dailybonjoviyoga schedule, has days when you go for a peak performance, and days when you noodle around.
The Showtime! days are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and I have paired them up with teachers that challenge you and have longer practices available on YouTube.
Neither the cd Yoga Sanctuary, nor Yoga Shakti dvd which was Shiva’s dvd I practiced with extensively, are available on YouTube.
But there is still plenty from other dvd’s that made it to YouTube;
You can find the more relaxing videos at the top, and the more energetic once at the bottom half.

do yoga with: 🌊Shiva Rea playlist

I also included a video on that playlist, which you may not recognize as to why it is part of the Shiva Rea playlist:
A business talk by Maty Ezraty.

This is the (current) description box of the playlist, with background information on the type of yoga Shiva Rea teaches, and why I included Maty Ezraty’s business talk:

description box 🌊Shiva Rea playlist
“Shiva Rea is known for her moving, free-flowing form of yoga. In 1999, her first recorded teachings were released, a double cd “Yoga Sanctuary” which had a recommendation from Alanis Morissette. She has created many yoga dvds combining yoga and dance, and she teaches around the world.

The final video, is one to provide historical context to why Shiva Rea became such an early leader in the yoga world;
It was because her roots are in the original Yoga Works community, in Santa Monica.

Yoga Works Santa Monica was founded in 1988, by Maty Ezraty and Chuck Miller.
When they sold it in 2004, this location alone was offering more than 120 classes per week to more than 700 students per day.
The Wanderlust interview with Maty Ezraty must have been filmed shortly after, so around 2006.

It was from this studio that many of the household names in yoga, came forth.
Shiva Rea being one of them.

Shiva Rea teaches to this day and you can find her classes here:
https://shivarea.love/classes

On the back of the double cd “Yoga Sanctuary”, an album that together with the booklet and the poster with all the poses is the best yoga tool/ yoga teacher training tool, I think was ever created;
You can find Alanis Morisette’s recommendation.

“Beautiful! I take it with me on the road”
Alanis Morisette on Yoga Sanctuary

Making Shiva Rea’s recordings not just indispensable to yoga students and yoga teachers in training;
But for rock stars as well.

So on Thursday, we go all in with
option 1: 🤘🏾🧘🏾 Guided yoga practice
:
do yoga with: 🌊Shiva Rea playlist
or buy her 1999 double album 2h practice, Yoga Sanctuary

or “Thursday, showtime! Keep the Faith/ I ll Sleep When I m Dead Tour”
option 2: 🤘🏾🧘🏾 Practice yoga on your own:
or freestyle with 🛐 Keep the Faith album✝️ or the 🏟️KTF tour🌎
For example: 17 June 1993, Yokahama

—🤘🏾🧘🏾 🎶🎸 that was your practice for today 🤘🏾🧘🏾 🎶🎸—

The concert part!
What concerts were played on June 30?

🗓️🎶🎸Bon Jovi 30 June

.
There is one pre-1997 concert recording of this day,
from the 1996 victory lap of the These Days Tour, when Bon Jovi gave an outstanding series of concerts in Europe:

Cross Road/ These Days Tour
30 June 1996, Frankfurt, Germany, Waldstadion
YouTube upload:
Bon Jovi | Live at Waldstadion | Frankfurt 1996

30 June 1996, Frankfurt, Germany🇩🇪
is the soundtrack for today

from the description box:
“One of the most iconic concerts of Bon Jovi’s career!
This includes not only one of their longest setlists, but also the only electric performance of Wanted Dead Or Alive in 1996!
“.

Frankfurt 1996 has been added to the playlist,

From Santa Monica to New Jersey via Frankfurt

👩🏼‍💻 the story June 30

Musician Brian Eno has a word for it:
Scenius.
Not genius but scenius, meaning our success is not due to a fact that we are brilliant, but rather because we are in an environment with people exercising the same craft.
We have access to a culture, in which the art is created or the craft is practiced.

Just like Shiva Rea was part of the original YogaWorks scene in Santa Monica, Jon Bon Jovi was part of the music scene in New Jersey.
There were multiple venues, playing a key role in nurturing the local music scene.
Here is a video of Jon Bon Jovi on stage with Bruce Springsteen in The Stone Pony, in 1987:
Springsteen w/ Jon Bon Jovi – Kansas City (New Jersey 1987)

And from the Wikipedia page of The Stone Pony:
“The Stone Pony is a New Jersey music venue in Asbury Park, New Jersey known for launching the careers of many New Jersey music legends, including Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, and Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes.[1] The club opened in 1973.”

And even the 1996 Frankfurt recording, having such a long setlist, including a stunning acoustic set;
That was no coincidence.

Germany has the strongest fanbase of Europe, and the band considers it their home away from home.
There is a Bon Jovi scenius, in Germany, just like there was a yoga scenius in Santa Monica.

In 2019, one of the two original founders of Yoga Works, Maty Ezraty, passed away unexpectedly; And in October 2020, the Yoga Works company, which  had by then operated without her for 15 years and had become a chain of highly successful yoga studios all over North America, filed for bankruptcy.

Yoga means union, and it means that we are all connected.
Sometimes we know where or how the scenius was created, and we can see how it contributes to success.
But we never know how long the scene will live;
We can think it is a public company, when in fact even 15 years after she left the company;
It was her consciousness, still in that scenius.
A consciousness that left, when she left this earth.

So if you find yourself, in a living, breathing scenius;
In a fan community, a yoga community, or any group of people that creatively connect at the same level;
Cherish it.

It’s what brought Frankfurt 1996 its amazing Bon Jovi concert.
And what brought Alanis Morissette and everyone else, their Yoga Sanctuary.

Bootleggers, roll your tapes! | 22 June – | Bon Jovi concerts Wembley 23, 24, 25 June 1995

the dvd Live from London contained 90s minutes of footage from only 1 of the 3 nights; There is a lot more!

Welcome to another day on this new daily blog! Every day you get
the Bon Jovi inspired yoga for that day
+ a Bon Jovi concert soundtrack for the day
+ a story!
Ranging from anywhere between
– a 2000 word blogpost, lavishly wrapped under, over and around, all things yoga and Bon Jovi;
– to refreshingly missing!
THAT IS TODAY!
☺️
I m going to my first concert in three years, and I m also staying over, for the first time in 2.5 years.
So I m packing, and have a to-do list that contains things like:
“Wifi code for A.”
A. takes care of my cats.
And my house needs to be cleaned, after suffering from total neglect, as it is almost the 2 week anniversary of this series!
Days when I spent up to 10 hours, just on posts like these, the many playlists and the page that came with it; and on designing a yoga blueprint for the days of the week.
All things I m happy with, and the amount of extra work is a hallmark of any startup phase, but it is of course not sustainable to put in this many hours, in the long run.

In other words, today is when the whole thing comes crashing down, you guys.
When daily blogging AND daily listing out all the concerts Bon Jovi has played on-this-day, AND select a YouTube audio or video that matches the day as your soundtrack; Comes to a halt!
Something has got to give.

This is the day Life steps in and says:
“Enough, Suzanne!”
And I have to cut whatever I can cut.

The good news is:
I know what I m gonna cut.

I m no longer going to list ALL (pre-1997) Bon Jovi concerts;
And just share the ones that have YouTube uploads.

And today, June 22 is a perfect day to make that switch because there are no recordings available from pre-1997 Bon Jovi concerts on this day.

If I would have shared the June 22 list with you
(for old times sake: it was
“1. opening for the Scorpions
22 June, 1984, Indianapolis, Indiana, venue; Indianapolis Market Square Arena
and
2. secret/ small gig between two legs of the Fahrenheit tour:
22 June, 1985, Detroit, Michigan, venue; Hart Plaza “
[ Bon Jovi | She Don’t Know Me | Hart Plaza, Detroit 1985 ]
since I had already done the research yesterday!)
I would have opted the soundtrack for today to be a concert upload from between June 10 and now, that we had not used yet.

But because it coincides with me going away and not wanting to blog when I m away; And also because I now understand I’ll have to seriously start culling and capping in this series, and start putting out multiple-day posts more often and put my 10 hour days on this blog behind me for good;
I am going for the Wembleys!

The three shows were set up to provide footage for an official Bon Jovi VHS, but ended up with a lot of last minute switching on what was going to be “the correct” show for this.
I don’t remember the details but I do remember it was an exciting story.
Although I admit I find all stories from bootleg traders and all the innerest of innerest intel they have, terribly fascinating!
I got the 22 June 1985 gig: “secret/ small gig between two legs of the Fahrenheit tour” through a list I got from one of them!

So I have a thing for these stories behind the concerts, including all the switching and choices made on the three nights in Wembley.
But your definition of what is top-of-the-bill fascinating may be a different one of course!

🗓️🎶🎸Bon Jovi 23-24-25 June

Cross Road/ These Days Tour

23 June 1995
Wembley night 1
Bon Jovi | 1st Night at Wembley Stadium | Fixed Audio! | London 1995
remastered by hAnD90
Don’t know what remastered tape is? Read the description box for the story behind this Wembley recording!

24 June 1995
Wembley night 2
Bon Jovi | 2nd Night at Wembley Stadium | London 1995
remastered by hAnD90
From the description box:
“The show itself is great and, by my take, the best of all three nights by a landslide!
Jon’s vocals, the setlist, the overall energy – they’re all very good.
Originally, this was the first night to go on sale, but after the ticket sales were that high, a “third” night was added before the first two shows, pushing this one back to being the second concert.”
I remember when I listened to this show in 2020/2021, Jon said something like:
“You’re the real fans!”
Referring to the fact that this night’s attendees, were the fans that had gone through lengths, and probably waited a night in line for their record store, to get a ticket to the original two shows.

25 June 1995
Wembley night 3
Bon Jovi – Wembley 1995 (3rd night – FULL SHOW)
remastered by Damned TV

Damned TV and hAnD90, belong to the same “guild”.
I think we fans are incredibly lucky they are around, they are true keepers of the flame and the reason new generations can tune in, and get on the Bon Jovi bus, so easily.
The bootleggers ARE the new generations!
My impression is they re mostly millennials, not Gen X, and I ve met fans online that were 13, 14 years old.

I believe without fans having a chance to interact with the material so intimately, Bon Jovi would not have stayed this big.

Bon Jovi seems to have understood the importance of having your fans record, play, and share your material.
Since the 90s there are “bootleggers roll your tapes” announcements by Jon Bon Jovi, mid-concert when they were about to play something special.
And where Guns N Roses material, at least until a few years ago, was taken down from YouTube all the time;
The legacy of Bon Jovi is kept by fans, creating this incredible archive all over YouTube.
It’s like an ever-expanding Bon Jovi library, provided by and maintained by fans.

Bon Jovi’s choice to use bootleggers-inclusive speech in the 90s, has paid off in having the best documented history of rock n roll.
It has paid off in having 13 year old fans in 2022.

It has paid off because when you shine your light on someone else,
when you acknowledge the other in their power of what it is that they do best;
They will do the same for you.

“Bootleggers, roll your tapes,”
is the symbol, of befriending your antagonists, without holding back;
And being rewarded for it.

The three Wembley shows have been added to the playlist, with all the concerts from this blog:

—🤘🏾🧘🏾 🎶🎸 that was your practice for today 🤘🏾🧘🏾 🎶🎸—

👩🏼‍💻 the story June 22

.
Of course I did tell a story after all.
In the first paragraphs, as well as tucked in between Wembley concerts.
Because that’s how it goes when you love something;
You can’t NOT engage with it.

I m going off the grid now, so for a few days you’ll be on your own.

But with three excellent Bon Jovi concerts to choose from;
I really will be back, before you have even the slightest opportunity, to miss me.

This series now has a playlist of On-this-day Bon Jovi concerts.
Updated daily with the most recent date at the top.

A place to experiment (Walk away Renee)| Bon Jovi 18 June 1995 Lahr, Germany

There have been days when took me 7 hours to write this daily post.
And days when I ve been able to bring it back to about 3-4 hours, including reposting the post from the day before to social media.
But even that still needs to be trimmed, and sooner rather than later, until I can write a yoga story, based on a Bon Jovi concert, in under 90 minutes.

So I already know that these first weeks on this series, will be the most time intensive.
And also the most productive, in terms of big breakthroughs!

Because I finally have an understanding of what I want to teach, to totally rock our yoga!
And no teacher allowed, just a helluvalot Bon Jovi!

You can find the Daily Bon Jovi Yoga blueprint on this special page;
https://dailybonjoviyoga.com/practice-materials-and-schedules/
And I ll be bringing it to life for you SOON, on both my Dutch and English YouTube channels.

So more than anything, the main place where I am currently doing my experimenting, is obviously, just right here!
This series is still in the experimental phase, for sure. Lots of trials and errors, although I consider the fact that I ve settled on a format, already quite far down the road.
It’s more than I had when I started.

But the experimenting I m doing here?
That is the level of experimenting in the concert that I ll highlight today!
Change a song or two, add a rarity; But with an understanding that ultimately the thing is gonna have to rock, and will have to meet the general expectations of what a blog post, or a 2+ hour rock show, are.

I m not crazy stuff experimenting here, any more that Bon Jovi was crazy stuff experimenting on June 18 1995 in Lahr, Germany!

So what do we got?
What [ pre-1997 ] Bon Jovi concerts were played on June 18?

First off! I missed an entire concert yesterday!
Werchter, Belgium, 1995
The show is no longer on YouTube, that channel was taken down. But I did make a video review about it in 2020/2021:

June 17 concert, I missed yesterday
Cross Road/ These Days Tour:
17 June 1995, Werchter, Belgium, Werchter Open Air Park
No recordings online at the moment.

In 2020/2021 the concert was available on YouTube, and I reviewed this concert.
You can watch my video here:
#18 Werchter, Belgium June 17 | 1995 Bon Jovi Concert Series (Stories)
[ end of added concert ]

Let’s proceed with this day!
Pre-1997 Bon Jovi concerts on June 18th:

Slippery When Wet Tour:
18 June 1987 Salt Lake City, Utah, Salt Palace (second night)

Cross Road/ These Days Tour:
18 June 1995 Airport Rock, Lahr, Germany, Flughafen Lahr
This concert has an audio upload:
Bon Jovi – Lahr, Germany 18.06.1995 (audio show)
Unfortunately, the last song is missing. The full recording was on a channel that was taken down recently.
And here is a video review I made in 2020/2021:
#19 Lahr, Germany June 18 | 1995 Bon Jovi Concert Series (Stories)
Other concert
Cross Road/ These Days Tour:
18 June 1996 Budapest, Hungary,  Óbudai-sziget

None of the other shows have YouTube/ audio recordings, so obviously we’re going with Lahr, 1995!
If you’re interested in doing your own research, you can find the backstory to all Bon Jovi records, as well as the tours Keep the Faith and up, on this website:
https://bjtours.jimdofree.com/

Older tours are being added.

So having all that settled! Let’s dive into Lahr, 1995!
A concert where Bon Jovi experimented with their setlist, because it was less than a week before they would play three nights in Wembley.
Lahr got the first live performance of “Good Guys Don’t Always Wear White”, an acapella “Don’t Walk Away Renee”, which had not been played on this tour yet; And a “We Will Rock You” intro to Lay Your Hands On Me.

I know all these things, not because I put in hours of study before getting behind my writing desk at 7.15 AM this morning;
But because for the first time in this series, I used my own video review of the concert to prepare this post.

On this blog, I talk about the pre-1997 Bon Jovi concerts that were on that day, and then use an aspect of one of them to teach something about yoga.
But 9 days ago, this series didn’t start out that way.

The concerts, the YouTube videos from an “on this day” concert, were supposed to be a something extra.
But now, of course, it is running the show!
You don’t sideline a Bon Jovi concert, not even in your blog.

So this blog is 90% about a concert on this day + whatever story it sparks;
and 10% yoga, life lesson, bringing it home.

But despite this shift in perspective, despite this being a Bon Jovi blog far more than a yoga blog, something I do still stick with, is that I don’t have to, listen to the recording before writing my post.
My commitment is to writing a daily post, not to reviewing concerts.

This is gonna be a year long daily blog, running to June 9 2023;
If I make myself study 1.5 -3 hour recordings before I am “allowed to” write, just like I did with my Bon Jovi video review series from 2020/2021! – then this series too, will not last.

What I learned from making that video review series, is that you have to limit your preparation time.
That review series ultimately got stuck in Wembley.
When for three concerts in a row, I had to plow through the recordings, the setlists, and I prepared Wembley night #2 multiple times! For months!
Just couldn’t get my head around it, and I had to start from scratch every time.
Until I ultimately saw that I was not the right person to do that work, and quit the 1995 concert series, even though as a concept I absolutely loved it.

But what I learned is that the key to running a series, is a SHORT, repeatable production process, with a predictable outcome.
It was because I failed to find a time-saving formula for that 1995 series, I had to give up.

With blog posts (free style, creative blog posts) I rarely have had times when I throw a blog post out, where I store it in draft, or when I have to take it to the next day to finish it.
It’s write and publish.
I do remember having 8 hour writing days, and then throwing it all out. It were intense periods, when I was trying to figure something out, and although the writing helped me, it didn’t turn into a blogpost.
Wasted time for content creation, not wasted time for my personal development. But that only happened like once a year.

But with videos, and particularly making yoga videos, I had as many minutes of video to throw away, than to use.
Recording a 30 minute yoga video – recording alone: not including cleaning the set, setting up the camera, getting changed and in makeup, preparing yoga sequence -, the filming, quitting, deleting, and starting again, was done rarely if ever under 90 minutes.
And I threw out a lot of Bon Jovi related videos too.

This is why, in yoga, people rarely experiment.
Why yoga is almost always, a set series, a decided upon time window. The method is almost always entirely fixed.
There is stability, predictability.

The yoga I ve encountered, is being done with the same mindset as how content creators do their work;
They NEED a predictable outcome, for their yoga. They need to have it contained and planned.

For practical reasons;
If you commit to having a fixed result, one yoga session, one blog post, one video;
You NEED to have a predictable process to get that result, or you need to define the result in a measurable way.

You can commit to doing 20 minutes of yoga a day.
To finding the handful of Bon Jovi concerts that were on a certain date.
And I know of at least one very successful YouTuber, Aaron Doughty, who committed to making one video every day, so it CAN be done!

And I can commit to making this daily blog IF!
If, I manage to find that move, where I can crush it, squeeze it, and pump it out, within 90 minutes;

Or 9 minutes when pressed for time!!

Almost ALL teachings on habit and productivity, are based on this idea.

I will need to get good at that, if I want this blog to be flexible enough to fit into;
-my life as a full-time content creator
Which is the life I have this summer. This is the easy part!
But also, to have a production method for this blog that:
– fits into what may come after
I feel a lot of “can I really do this” uncertainty, and have not thrown away the key, burned the boat, to having a more regular job, or work as an independent in the “real world”.
– still fits if the day goes to something else
– still gets done if my mind goes to something else

The year is long, and even when I finally bite the frickin’ bullet and show up as a fulltime content creator after summer and for every day for the rest of my life! Then there will still always be 4 blogs and 3 YouTube channels, I create content for. And that s just under this name, because I also have a penname.

So after accepting this startup phase, where it still takes 7 hours a day to blog here;
This Daily Bon Jovi blog will ultimately be embedded in the rest of my work.
Or it will die.

I HAVE TO streamline writing these posts, if I am to successfully complete this year of blogging.

However!
And this is why I m teaching this new school of yoga, Rock Star Yoga, #dailybonjoviyoga;
I think yoga should be BROKEN.
That your aim should never be, for it to fit in with your daily life.

I have more than had it with the sameness, and the properness, and the tidiness of all these daily habits because we re missing out of LIFE.
We re missing out on the biggest of our dreams, because we re micromanaging ourselves through our days.

One reason I feel teaching yoga is so tricky, is because it is almost ableist to an unhealthy lifestyle!
One where we have single serving portions of things that are meant to be whole;
One where we sideline things, and label them as “extras”, just like I labeled the Bon Jovi concerts for this blog as “extra”;
When those things are meant to be the main show!

You’re actually doing not so much them, those things, but yourself a huge disfavor, to cut them into 5 or 20 minute pieces.
And I, with the utmost certainty, no longer want to be the person teaching you that.

Here’s my yoga teaching for 2022 to you now:
To just let the whole thing, your whole life, fall apart into glorious pieces.
So that it can be built back up.

Either that, or ten years from now you re still micro-managing, squeezing, and do whatever it is that you think you should be doing daily, into an efficient process with a predictable outcome.

But that shit ain’t gonna fly.
That shit ain’t gonna ROCK.

When I made that yoga schedule, in this first week of having those 7 hour blogposts, my aim was not that you (I!) could easily fit it into our lives.
My aim was you, me, us, thinking;
“How on EARTH, am I going to do THAT?
It’s never gonna fit!!”
and:
“I don’t even understand what it says!”

“I can’t get my head around it! It’s like Wembley 1995!”
Okay, in all fairness, that last one is probably not what you think, but that’s what I think when I see the Daily Bon Jovi Yoga week schedule page.

And that instead of chopping it up into 20 minutes of the same predictable yoga everyday;
We re going to find a way to either swallow this whole.
Or walk away, Renee!

We re going to let our desire for it, our enthusiasm for Rock Star Yoga, for #dailybonjoviyoga, for that schedule with its 7 days of 7 entirely different types of yoga, RISE!
Until our desire for yoga has pushed away not just our worries about yoga, but all the other worries as well.

Just like Bon Jovi, Rock Star Yoga needs to be a headliner.
And then it will run the show for you.

Until we are so passionately in love with the idea of yoga, that we clear our calendars, barricade the doors, turn our phones off, and are willing to ignore all the other things in the world (okay, unless a living being, dedicated to your care, needs you, or your house is on fire);
Unless we are ready to wall off everything else, and are burning with desire to do it?
Don’t do yoga.
In fact: I urge you NOT to.

I have this Daily Bon Jovi blog, where for one year I write about all the  Bon Jovi concerts that were on this day;
Creating a 365 day legacy, that we can always return to, and that I can update , repost, and build on, for years to come!
So it’s worth it to me, to adopt that productivity-based way of at least being able to crush writing a post in 9 minutes, if all I would have on one day are 9 minutes.
But I will do it for this purpose, alone.

Because we, don’t have a 365 day yoga commitment;
We, have a commitment to let Daily Bon Jovi Yoga run the show.

Or walk away Renee.
